Default Mechanical Vacuum Gauge on Dodge Hemi

Please indicate the optimum location and specifics for installing the engine vacuum hook-up using a mechanical vacuum gauge on a 2005 Dodge Ram Hemi. The gauge is made by AutoMeter and is a pod mount. The instructions with the gauge are not adequate even though it should be a simple procedure. I don't want to make a mistake and start throwing codes so anyone with firsthand experience and/or suggestions will be most appreciated.

Thanks in advance***

Just take off the little nipple cover on the brake booster fitting. Put your vac line there.

Thanks kenihemi; I had been told horror stories about messing with the brake system? Have you done this installation or know of any other gremlins that might jump up? Obviously the gauge is mainly for 'show' just to see the needle jump around and maybe try to squeeze out a bit more fuel economy by keeping the pressure up and my foot out of the floorboard***

I would be very interested to know where the gauge itself will be mounted. I didn't see any place on or in my dash to put one.

hdt551,

I'm not sure if you received the reply that I sent through regular e-mail via the Dodge e-mail system but the gauge will be mounted in an Auto Meter pod-mount made specifically for 03 to 05 Rams. They are available from various vendors but I got mine from Summit Racing***
If you have experience with mechanical vacuum gauges please tell me what you know---

Thanks,

I have the sts turbo in my hemi ram.

I use the brake booster nipple thing for all my vac/boost references;
Wastegate, boost controller, blow off valve and vac/boost guage.

I have a 3 meter A pillar pod for the vac/boost gauge and the pyrometer and A/F guage.

You can get a one meter pod like the srt-10 has from the dealer or on ebay. $50 or less.

kenihemi,

It sounds like you have plenty of experience with aftermarket gauges; when using the brake booster access nipple as you have suggested for my vacuum gauge hook-up do you recommend any special fittings or hoses for the installation or will the nylon tube and t-fittings supplied with the Auto Meter gauge work fine? Sorry for asking so many questions, I just want to do it right the first time and not have nagging headaches***

THANKS!

Not sure what came with your meter, so;

Just go to the car parts place and get some 7/32" or 1/4" rubber vacuum hose and some little plastic fittings.
