4.7 racing a 5.7

I agree with the points about not getting the speed all that high. The Hemi shifts into 2nd @45mph, and into 3rd @ around 80mph. and some of the faster trucks around here are running just under 90mph in the quarter. So i doubt he'll make into 3rd gear. Let him race the guy. He'll probably lose, and then we can hear about the excuses about why the Hemi kid won... just my $.02

Only way you'd be able to beat a Hemi, is to do some serious modification to your engine. Adding Cold air intake, change out exhaust to headers, and straight duels, no cat back system. Replace your 3.92's gear with the 4.56's. Install some performance cams, get a performance flash installed in the computer. Get rid of the belt driven fan, replace with an electric fan. That's on the cheap, those are ALL modifications I am currently persuing. Saving up for headers, after that will be the cams. After that, the superchips flash paq. Then I will say after all that, that I will have a chance to take a hemi. Until then, I don't have a chance. There's just too many pony's under his hood for you to contend with, without you adding some of your own. But I wish ya luck.
Well, I think the Hemi hands down. The hemi has such a good launch with torque management because it hardley spins the tires and just grips the road, at least thats what mine feels like that the 4.7 wont know whats up till its to late. But kids will be kids.
Jetpig, don't forget those two that were racing didn't even have a valid license between them, both had permits. Add to that the fact that they were racing on one of the most crowded six lane highways in the state, 17 at Rest. Row when the tourists are packed bumper to bumper.....just adding to the misplaced judgement calls that can be made with age. Wrong place, wrong time for the lack of knowledge and experience. But it isn't the first time it's happened, I had a friend spend his formidable Jr and Sr years of High school in prison in Columbia about 20 years ago for racing stoplight to stoplight in NMB. He didn't stop his Camaro at the next light, but the Mustang he was racing did, right on the side of a family on vacation killing the mother. He ran back to NC, but they still found him because of his tag. Three years cut to two with parole, but I'm sure he would agree now that it wasn't worth it.

You know with all that work you are planning with your 4.7 why dont you just save the money and trade in your truck for a HEMI instead? What your describing is about as much as what it would cost to upgrade to the hemi. and your cheap price there isnt that cheap Your lookin at atleast 3-4 grand there. And then after all that work all you have to do to the hemi is add a chip, CAI, and exhaust and it'll do laps around you and mont void any of your warranties.......... Just a thought.......
