4.7 racing a 5.7
this kid at my school is getting a hemi quad cab with 20s but he doesnt know anything about trucks or racing or anything so im gonna see if hell race me (i have an 04 4.7 qc with 20s and some mods). im gonna do stoplight to stoplight and take overdrive off keep my RPMs up at the light and when he gasses it hard and starts going ill (hopefully) be already a trucks length ahead since ill launch from about 1700-200 rpms. im sure he wont think to take overdrive off. yeah i know it wont be very fair with me knowing all the little tricks and him not knowing anything but i figure he has 90 more horses than me to make up for it. im also thinking hell gas it too hard and maybe spin em off the line which would help me alot. not sure what gearing he has but if its 3.55 then it gives me one more edge since i have 3.92s.
so do yall think its possible for me to take him? keep in mind this wouldnt be a top end race it would be for like 150 yard-200 yards tops so if i get a jump on him could i take him? i also think that instead of letting my engine rev up all the way to 6000 rpms like it normally does when i floor it without overdrive on i think ill let off the gas at around 4700-5000 rpms and let it shift and then get back on it. ive been experimenting with this alot lately and it seems to stay in the powerband alot better than letting it rev all the way to 6000 and then bogging in the next gear. my pawpaw taught me about doing this. he said when you let off you dump the fluid out of the torque converter (something like that) and can sort of control when it shifts based on when you let off and how hard youre on the gas. it helped me beat an f150 with the 5.4 a few weeks ago so im pretty confident it will give me a little edge against the hemi.

If, and this is a BIG IF, you can get off the line faster than him you may stand a slim chance at beating him. Even with your little "trick" you'll have a fight on you hands to stay in front of him. The hemi is a very powerful engine and if he sinks his foot into it off the line you'll basically be eating his dust all the way down the road. Now if your truck was the single cab and his was the quad I may lean more in your favor but as it stands now he'll probably smoke you.
i think you are a little dumb in the head... first off the 5.7 would rape a 4.7 anyday... i dont care who is driving it.... secound off your little tricks and mods you speak of are not gonna give you **** compared to the 5.7..... and the overdrive isnt a big secret....
Dumb People **** me off
Dumb People **** me off
Unless your mods added roughly 100 hp and some serious torque(like a cam, heads, and supercharger), your done. I have a 4.7 myself and still love truck (as I don't use it as a racer) and know whole heartedly the only way I will beat a 5.7 is if he runs out of gas before we start.

x 11ty billion! The streets are way to crowded these days with sub par drivers to be trying to get around them at high speeds. I'm all for fast cars but street racing is getting out of control especially in a light a$$ed pick-up that handles like a boat.
