'03 Ram w/Towing Package--Brake Control Question
Hi All---New Poster here!
I am wondering (and perhaps this has been asked before) if anyone can direct me toward the starting point for installing an electronic brake controller on my '03 Ram 1500 Quadcab, 5.9l, 4X4? I purchased a Reese controller, but there's no harness connector w/it; nor can I see anything under the dash designated as a connection. The truck came with the towing package.
Any input or help will be greatly appreciated---I'm trying to get geared up to pull a camper trailer to Martinsville in October!!
Thanks,
C. King

You can get a harness from Dodge. Then you can match up the harness to the connector. The connector is tucked up in there pretty good. I'll see if I can get a pic later today.
Can't you just run a wire from your controller to your brake pedal switch. That's what I had on my Chevy.Your pedal controls the trailer brakes.
hemifever and Silver Eagle,
Thanks for the responses.
Silver Eagle; yeah, the wiring diagram that came with the controller gives that scenario, but I'm not quite able to see which wire corresponds to the colors, etc. that came with the controller diagram and instructions.
hemifever; after posting here last night, I did come across some sites with harness connectors, but you're right there also in that I couldn't remember seeing anything up under the dash that would match the pics I was seeing online. I looked again tonight after work and I could see what looked like it might be the right connector as far it had four wires coming into the back of it. The connector itself was blue---if that means anything.
Perhaps if I chew on the guys' ears at the Dodge parts counter they can confirm whether that's the one or not---but if you have a pic before I can get to the dealer, I would appreciate that also!
Thanks again to the both of you,
C. King

Does anyone know if the connector is blue on the 05's? I have an 05 Dodge Ram 1500 with the factory installed tow package. I have had a Dodge mechanic and several trailer dealers looking under my dash for the connector and no one can find it. The Dodge mechanic made a phone call or two and tried to tell me that it is "built-in" and I don't need a separate brake controller when towing.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
David

If you are going to need a Brake Controller then I would imagine that your going to some weight.
I camper and would recommend having someone install the controller for you. You want that kind of thing done right especially if you are carrying your family.
Also, if you can, I would return the Reese and by a Prodigy. The Prodigy is much smoother when it comes to stopping. The Reese jerks the truck/traler around.

DavidR the electrical connection is integrated but you need to by the harness (wires and connections) between the controller and electrical box. The connector was supplied in all three trucks that I owned. But I bought them all new.
