The Regular Cab Enthusiast's Manifesto
Just because it isn't for you, doesn't make it worthless, as several members implied. Clearly dodge was correct in the need for the truck: we all see them everywhere we go. For myself, I would have gone Ford had the Mega-Cab not come out. What a perfect vehicle for me. The bed is just long enough, and what doesn't fit there-can fit in my 28' trailer. The cab is more then comfortable for my 1000mile a week trips.
yeah being 18 a RC SB is awesome because I can take my girlfriend out and I can still go dirt biking so thats all I care about but once I have a family and kids some day I will own a mega cab cummins 4x4.
Sorry, my dream car as a kid was a '67 VW Double Cab (it's a strange fetish, I know). If you've never seen one look them up on thesamba.com, you'll have a laugh. I have always liked the idea of a 4 dr truck and I think Dodge has done it better than anybody, though I'm still unsure on the Mega Cab. When I went looking for a new truck this last time this was one of the requirements I told the stealerships, must have 4 full functioning doors. With a family of 3 plus a large dog I wouldn't want a RC or XCab ever again because there are just too many people and project materials that I haul around all at the same time. I really like the look of the RC, it just doesn't fit my life. It wasn't a compromise, it was my choice. If it isn't your cup of tea then don't drink it.
Ahh! You guys are making me sick[:'(]. I like the look of the RC, but I HAD a QC before I traded it in so that my wife could get a "2wd overgrown stationwagon" as someone put it, for our soon to be new baby boy. I have made the ultimate sacrifice of practicality now that I'm getting 30+mpg and drive 70+ miles per day in the VW. Now I have her VW and wish I had my truck. 2.5 more years and counting down until I get my new Dodge Ram
. The MegaCab 4x4 with the Cummins sounds pretty nice for a "family" vehicle.

Depends on your line of work.
I'd take a QC to keep my **** high and dry and out of the elements. Rarely to I need the long bed, in fact... I havent wanted one yet.
The only time I'd 'demand' a long bed is if the truck was getting a large capacity transfer tank on it for offroad diesel. Then you need the extra bed to get back to usuable length.

Regular or Quad Cab?
Nothing wrong with either one. Just what you need or like the most. I have to have an eight foot bed & 4X4 so things change. I wanted a four door eight ft bed 2500 with a diesel. Not enough change in the back pocket to pay for it. I got a regular cab eight ft bed 1500 with a 4.7. It has worked out fine. The large regular cab has more storage room than expected and I normally only have one passenger with me at most. Maybe next time.
The wife and I took the regular cab out west this summer on a 5,000 mile jaunt and we both were very comfortable with plenty of room.
Loving the regular cab! No kids though.

Regular or Quad Cab?
A couple of things the quad cab guys may not know.
The regular cabs have longer doors than quads by several inches. (one draw back) Also the “B†pillar is longer (similar) to a mega a cab. This equates to about a foot or more of storage that is not readily seen. I would guess that our cabs run back to about where the front of the rear seat start in a quad.

My QC 4x4 is quite useful. My wife has a Nissan Xterra, but when we all go out, my truck is/was the family wagon. I have a one kid, and another on the way. Kinda hard to fit all of us in a regular cab for cross country trips, eh? I physically don't fit in my wife's Xterra to drive it. My legs and knees are extremely cramped, which is why we take my truck everywhere (not to mention I just love to drive it!). I have a soft cover on the bed to keep luggage dry on trips, and if when I need to bed I just roll the cover up. Even with an 8 ft. bed you'd still have to tie down a dirtbike, so what's the difference if the tailgate is open or closed? I used to haul around a dirtbike in the back of my Ram with no problems. If I used to be able to haul a Honda CBR in the back of my old Tacoma all the time with no problems, I don't see why anyone would think a full size Ram would cause much trouble just because it doesn't have the longest bed possible...
If I wanted an SUV, I would have bought an SUV. I traded in an '04 VW Jetta GLI (VR6, 6 spd...fun little car to drive!) for my truck. I have never looked back. Now that I am an amputee in a wheelchair, having the extra room in back has never been as important as it is now. In order to get in and out by myself, I have to be able to keep my wheelchair readily accessible right behind me in the rear seat. I wouldn't be able to reach it if it were outside the truck in the bed. This is a practice I have yet to master. It isn't pretty, but I'm working on it!!!
