a differant kind of Headers question.
hey guys, i was wondering. What are the effects of headers on mpg? I'm looking at the Pacesetters but I wanted to know if they would screw up my mpg. Its enough of a pain to have to fill it up every 10 days or so. I still want something to make the truck more powerful but I want efficient power, not something that compromises economy. I also plan on getting a Superchips and the 6.1L cam but i've heard that even with the Superchips it would give me like.....10mpg. Any ideas guys?
To be completely honest if your looking to do those mods you should not be looking at MPG. Headers and mods won't really mess up your mileage, your right foot will once you feel the difference. The only thing headers really do is it frees up all that backpressure in you motor. Which in turn frees up some horsepower and tourque. As far as what you are looking at doing it seems that you are on the right track just don't think about MPG. It's my belief that if you bought a truck you really didnt by it for it's great gas mileage. By the if you gonna get a bigger cam you might want to look at a bigger lb. valve spring also. Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

I'll tell ya what I went with comp cams and I am happy. They also have the springs to boot. Here are the part numbers the cam is CCA-112502-11 and the valves are CCA-26918-16. You MPG really won't decrease to noticably again it's wha tyour right foot does I can still get about 350 miles to a tank. Also I had a custom program done for my truck which really helps.

how much dyno time did you have to put in to have it tuned? I mean i have a friend who dyno-tuned his friend STi and paid almost $1000 which isnt what I'm looking for, not at all. Thats what I like about the 6.1L Cam, no tuning needed. Where could I get valve springs for the 6.1L cam?
As far as the valves for the 6.1 i'm not sure cause I went with comp cams. I have an account that I get alot or my mods from. As far as dyno I spent 350 for 5 runs to include tuning. I was tuned in 3 but I still used the rest.
sweet, so now all i have to do is find a decent shop to tune it. I might take it to a place called Engine Logics. They specialize in imports (specifically MR2s) but they might be able to do it. thier tuning is top notch, unless you know of a decent domestic shop in Houston.

in raising compression, what would that do to my engine life? there is no way that I'm rebuilding the motor after blowing it up. I want it to be an awesome daily driver. i'm trying to keep it looking stock, i like the stock exhaust and i have a K&N drop-in but thats it. I need engine life so thats why i'm looking at the cam, maybe headers and definatley a Superchips.
