Just Installed a Brute Force CAI
I just finished installing my Brute Force CAI.... I have a QC 06 Hemi... it was a bit of a pain because a few holes for screws are not in the right spot and the coolant and washer fluid resevoir get in the way when trying to put the front bolt on to hold the heat sheild... but other than that PITA... it was fairly simple.... I already had a Hypertech Power Programmer III... but I reinstalled it because I wasnt sure if un hooking the battery would reset the computer... but anyway... to the test drive... man what a difference that the CAI makes.... I could really feel a big difference... usually it takes my hemi a little while to reach its power.. usually around 4000 RPMs... but now I can start feeling it pick up at about 3000 ... this makes first gear go by FAST... and then in second the faster it gets up the more power it seems to have... I am extremley pleased with the performance.... but that wasnt the best part... the 06 as you all know is a pretty quite Hemi... well when I put my foot in it after installing the CAI ... Now it sounds like a Hemi... dang that truck sounds good now... all I need now is a set of headers and a good exhaust... Just wanted to share this with you all... has anyone else installed the Brute Force CAI???? how did you all like it???
Off the subject, unhooking the battery will not reset the computer. It will, however, reset your radio, which is a pain in the ***. There's a way to reset the computer without affecting any other part of the electrical system if you need to though.
Thanks i would like to know how to do that for future referance... I wasnt sure so I just reinstalled the Hypertech anyway... I got a code of 1864... i think it was because I unplugged the sensor before I unhooked the battery.... i cleared it and will check it again after I drive it a while
What did the intake cost? I have talked to a few people and they all said intakes will void the warranty and that when you plug in a chip it will throw a code and that will also void out the warranty. Any truth to that if you know?
I wrote a reply but it didnt seem to post so if you see this twice thats why... anyway I paid 306 for the CAI and that was with 2 day shipping which was 35 ... as far as warranty.. Hypertech advertises that their product doesnt void warranty... plus you can un program it if you are taking it in... as far as the CAI ... everything that i replaced and took off was smiple... there was no cutting carving or drilling involved... so if something did go wrong all you would have to do is through the old air intake back on... I am sure someone in here knows far better than I... but that is just my opinion.... thanks for the response....
Intakes will not void your warranty because your not going into your engine. And if they claim it does get it in writing how the CAI caused the problem. 99% of the time they wont fight it so I wouldn't worry about it. And if you are really worried about it have dodge install their mopar CAI cause then its under Dodges warranty because it is a mopar part. But its the same as if you were to install a new exhaust system than factory. As far as the programer you have to reset it back to stock when you bring it in for warranty work because they upgrade the programing/re-flash the computer which will in most cases overide the programers programing and will not allow you to reinstall the programer.
Travelinman, since you would like to know how to reset the computer, here's what you do:
1)Pop the hood and open the fuse box.
2)Remove the ECM fuse (should be fuse 19).
3)Get in and buckle your seatbelt (this will prevent the seatbelt reminder chimes from initiating).
4)Turn the key to "RUN" but DO NOT start.
5)Wait 5-6 seconds and you should hear a chime and then within 1-2 seconds, a second chime will sound.
6)The computer is now reset.
7)Replace fuse and button it all back up.
NOTE: Some guys say to drive like a madman after you do this because it will help to adjust your shift points at a higher RPM, but I've nothing to add to that subject because I didn't notice a difference (but it was sure fun tryin'!)

I have a Brute force on my '03 hemi and love it. As for the warranty, if you got the dry flow filter from AEM you will never have a problem. I have heard that if you use an oiled filter, the oil can suck into the intake and cause some problems which might void you if they can prove it. I love my entire AEM setup.
