MDS wasn't put on the 6.1 on purpose. They could do like Chevy and offer a detuned version of the 6.1 with MDS for trucks only, but then what would be the point? It would only be marginally higher HP than the 5.7 with probably better torque. If you're gonna buy a ripsnorter, then be prepared to pay the gas tab that goes with it...

They can put the MDS on the 6.1 at any time. With NO power loss. You will see it happen soon. There is no power loss between the non MDS 5.7 and the MDS 5.7.

Well the whole thing with the 6.1L is that it has a more aggressive camshaft then the 5.7L which helps it get the extra 85HP along with a few other things. And the MDS only works with a cam lift under .500 and I believe the SRT-8 cam is like .522 so if the 6.1L did have MDS there would be a lose in performance. But a Ram with the 6.1HEMI would be awesome. It would be a 14flat truck and high 13's with just exhaust and intake

Gotta toss the bright yellow BS flag on that one. I couldn't see an MDS engine functioning with the requisite cam timing. 5.7's have fairly mild cam timing, especially compared to a 6.1. Apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so. So yes, they could, and yes, it would suck.

there was an article published in a magazine of a company taking the 6.1L heads and porting them and puttin them on the 5.7 along with a few other things. I dont remember for sure everything, but i will look for the article and see what i can do about posting it here in the forum. but it sure would be fun to have a 6.1L supercharged or turbo hemi ram [sm=happy046.gif]

I think your thinking of the "Hot Rod Magazine" article where Westech was working on changing parts and cams from the 6.1 to the 5.7... I think, cause thats the only article that I remember seeing.

You guys know that the 6.1L heads and cam can mount into a 5.7L Hemi, right? There are guys on other forums that have been running set up for close to a year now... Wait a sec...you guys know there are other forums besides this one, correct?

YUP, and I've been biding my time and money for a set of heads and cam at the very least. There's already one site where they've figured out how to adapt the actual 6.1 intake for truck use. If I win the lottery then I get the other site's 426 Hemi! for my truck.

http://www.gsmotorsports.com/ Lotsa stuff
http://krcperformance.com/newcontent/home.html Even more good stuff
http://www.heatperformance.com/61stroker.html 426er!!! (This one also has the intake conversion)

damn that heat performance 5.7 stroker package looks sweeeet. 500-550 HP naturally aspirated. If I do that AND supercharge I will destroy everyone haha.
