power wagon question
Is the 2006+ Hemi equipped with MDS? I would think that with it being a true work truck, they wouldn't do anything to hinder the power and performance, and that the MDS is more for the daily commuting 1500 driver.
Thanks
Thanks
also mds has yet to show any substantial gains in mileage to be worth it. i personally hate mds. from now on if i buy a truck (planning on buying a new one within a year) then i will get a heavy duty for the sole purpose of avoiding mds. it just makes it harder to do mods. if you want new cams you have to go with a less aggressive cam that wont interfere with mds. just a PITA if you ask me.
After talking to a few people who own MDS'd Hemis, I'm not that impressed either, and I was hoping that the working trucks had the real Hemi. All the power from all the cylinders all the time!
Thanks!
Thanks!

But don't buy one if you have a long drive to work and can't afford the gas.
well, yeah, it'll be my daily driver, too...but most consumers drive the 1500 and unless I want to get a 2005 with a non-MDS Hemi, I'll have the bite the gas bill on the 2500...or get a diesel, which I've also been considering.
the thing is, I want a 4x4 that has good clearance due to my area flooding terribly. I like the height of the power wagon, so that's something I would keep stock except maybe throw on some larger tires to fill in the space. If I don't get a power wagon, I'm considering a 2500 4wd mega cab in either a gas or diesel...but I will be lifting it.

According to my owner's manual, and the dealer that sold me the truck, my 06 Power Wagon DOES have MDS. And my mileage tends to be right around 14 mpg, which seems to be 1-2 mpg better than most the 05 Power Wagon posts around here.
For those that say the truck does not have MDS, I'd like to see where they're getting their info???

Along with what everyone else said, I wrote to Dodge and asked them directly, mostly because the most of sales people don't have a clue as to what they're selling and will tell you whatever you want to hear...to get the sale.
Anyhoo, my reply from Kinya at Dodge said the 2500 comes with the standard, fully horse-powered, non-MSD'd Hemi.

Interesting...
I agree, the salesguys only tell you what they think you want to hear. I guess the owner's manual could be wrong, but here's what it says (don't have an electronic version):
Mult Displacement System - 5.7L Engine Only: This fearture offers imporved fuel economy by shutting off four of the engine's eight cylinders during light load and cruise conditions. The system is automatic with no driver imputs or additional driving skills required. NOTE: The MDS system may take some time to return to full functionality after a battery disconnect.
Since the Power Wagon only comes with the 5.7L engine, maybe this is a "copy-paste" job gone bad from another manual?
