whats that sound coming from the 03-06 engines
I've heard a couple of 1500 rams with the same sound and was wondering if any one has figured it out yet. It is that chirping -tap sound especialy when you first crank the engine over. I also can hear it when I start to give it gas and when I step on the pedal. The dealer said it was comun engine noise for the rams especialy the 5.7 hemi. I don't buy it. A bud of mine ,with the same truck, just had his exaust manifold seals replaced and said that the dealer concluded that it was the problem. Any input would be of great help. Thanks.
I don't know....some say the 5.7 is prone to ticking, My last truck was a 04 F-150 with the 5.43v and that G D P off S was louder at idle than a cumonins or power stroke, my 06 5.7 dosent have any strange engine sounds at start up or idle, but next oil change I'm going to a synthtic oil, should quite down a little..
I put an AEM intake on my 04 1500 Hemi and about two months later it seems to have developed an exhaust leak. I also hear that ticking you are talking about. I hope the two are not related. The dealer said it was the EGR and replaced it. The exhaust noise seems to have stopped but now it stumbles and sputters when I roll on the throttle gently, in top gear only between 1500 and 2000 rpm. If it down shifts it feels fine. They replaced the EGR again and nothing has changed. Any advice?

I keep all my drain intervals between 3k and 4k miles.
KRC Performance rebuilt my engine a few weeks ago. I put in a 6.1 cam, their 6005 series heads with manley springs and manley pushrods and some federal mogul pistons. I don't hear the tick anymore. Coltsteele's engine doesn't tick anymore either after his complete forged bottom end. Either the engine is making different noises to cover up the tick, or the tick really is gone. But I don't hear it anymore.

I have never had a Dodge Ram motor that did'nt tick or have the "valve chatter". All 318 and 360 Rams made the tick noise. The Hemi make it but it is much quieter than the 318 and 360 I had before. I would be worried if it did'nt make any noise but then again, I am a Harley guy so that explains alot.
