Mega cab versus Quad - Can't decide
BlkRam: Aged meat...lol
MotoRider: I live in Granite Bay, not too far from your old hometown of Folsom. I also grew up in the Bay Area (South Bay), and migrated here in 1990. And yes, this area really surprised me with its' wealth of outdoor activities. I was travelling to Vegas about twice per year until my job function changed this past year. I was on a personal mission to try and stay at every hotel on the strip.
RingWraith: yes, there is actually quite a bit of legroom compared to the Quad cab. The quad cab is listed at 36.9ish, while the Mega cab is at 44" of rear legroom. The rest of the additional 20" is behind the rear seats. Another thing they don't really promote is the abundance of under seat storage in the Mega cab. I know what you are saying about the rear center seat in the quad...still no headrest, and a rather compromised seat cushion, along with the intrusion of the front-center-seat cushion when in the upward position.
I am going to try and stop by the dealer (MotoRider: i.e. Folsom Lake Dodge) today in-between work meetings. I will ask their service manager if he has been seeing issues with the AC.

There is deffinatly more room in the mega cab. I have an 06 qc and love it. I sometimes wish I got the mega cab though. I have a little one and here rear facing seat either go into the middle back seat or behind the passenger. But if it is ehind the passenger then they have to move the seat forward a decent amount. When we were shopping we stuck the car seat in the mega cab and teh passenger seat could be all the way back with the car seat behind it and there was still 3 to 4 inches space between them. What detered me away from the mega was I could not afford a 3/4 with a diesel. so I was going to have to go with the hemi. What few people I talked to was not getting very good mpg. we were buying the veh as a second veh to have my daughter in. I had a reg cab 98. So if we werent ever going to take the mega because of mileage then what was the point in buying it. so I went with the qc.
I had a QC. I loved it for what it was, my daily driver. If the wife and I went out with friends, we would end up taking another vehicle so that the rear passengers would have room. I'm kinda tall, so the passenger behind me didn't have a whole lot of room.
With that being said, it was still more comfortable than an extended cab chevy or ford.
Now that I have traded my Ram for an SUV for the wife and expecting a child, the Megacab is on my list for late 2008 when the rebates are nice and high. My problem is that I can't decide if I want a 1500 w/Hemi or 2500 w/ CTD. But that's for another day.

I am 19 years old and i drive a QC. i didn't know they had the mega cab when i picked it up but i had seen alot of them where i work. i am not a big fan of the way the mega cab looks on the outside. i seen one with a 6" lift and i thought it looked pretty goofy. but thats just my opinion. im the guy that says i don't care about the passengers in the back but its not like its a extended cab chevy which what i was looking for in the first place until i looked at a dodge. didn't plan on going with the hemi neither but deffinatly didn't go wrong on that decision. i usually use the back for my lugage when at work and for taking the other crew members with me. when im at home its usually me and the old lady and her 18mnth child in the back.
My .02 worth...
I have a 1500 Megacab. Wanted a QC, but my kids are 10 and 6, and it was only 3" more room than my 01 318, and they were crunched back there. As for room, last week I had my father in law (6' 4") and 2 brothers-in-law (6' 4" and 5' 10") in the back seat, and they were comfortable. There is actually more room in the back than in the front.
The 1500 has the Hemi. While others have complained (here and elsewhere) about the performance, it works just fine for me. Blows away the 318 in a truck that was ~1200lbs lighter. If you need to tow large campers, trailers, etc, get the CTD. With the Hemi, your MPG will suck (12 around town 15-16 Hwy), but its a truck, and a heavy one at that. If we buy trucks and want great MPG, we're kidding ourselves, especially with gas engines.
I really like the truck, and it does get some stares. I've had it for 4 months, and I have only seen 6 other Megacabs in this area (north metro Atlanta).
If you want room, go for it, you won't be sorry. As for parking, lets just say I walk a lot. No big deal as I need the exercise, and it keeps the truck away from idiots who don't give a rats *** who they slam their doors into.
And its always good to **** off the tree hugging, granola eating, kumbyah singing, bug infested, contribute absolutely nothing to society, enviromentalist wackos.

I have a 2500 CTD Mega Cab and you can haul anything from kids to crap in the back. It does have a couple of drawback like no 8 foot bed and parking can be tight in areas. One of the best things is obviously the room in the back on long drives. You can actually recline the seats some and catch some decent Zs. If you got the extra $$$ Mega is the way to go.
If I didn't have a boat to pull I'd trade my Quad cab in for a new Town and country van. Lots of room and better on gas. The mega Ram will fit 6 adults and the Quad won't But if you just have Kids the Quad cab is jut as good. Both are hard to park. You'll need a drive through end spot. Go for the van. 18 /25 and they get it.
If your truck is your primary family hauler, definitely go with the Mega Cab. If you have another vehicle that you can use on family outings around town, a Mega Cab may be a bit of overkill and the Quad Cab will be just fine. I'm like you; I have a Quad Cab and have taken long trips with the wife, 2 kids, and the dog and have kicked myself for not waiting for the Mega Cab. It sounds like you've already sold yourself on the Mega Cab. Go for it. The benefits should more than outweigh the drawbacks. My general outlook in these situations is I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it!
Actually, here in the Sacramento valley, I am beginning to see quite a few Mega cabs. We do in fact already have a minivan (Chrysler T&C), but it lacks storage space for all but the shortest day-trips. And of course it wont' tow the travel trailer looming in our future. I agree that it is probably better to have too much truck 90% of the time, but have enough truck for 10% of the time you really need it.
It has actually been my wife who has been pushing for the Mega cab. I'm the one who has been trying to justify the smaller dimensions of the quad cab. I've started looking at it this way: The Mega Cab is only about 2" longer than the current Ford Super-Duty CC, SB, it is shorter than all CC long-beds (even about 2" shorter than the quad-cab longbed). And I see a lot of the Fords and CC long-beds on the road. So, if they can do it, why can't I? And, as far as bragging rights, I really don't see any other manufacturers upping the ante in this dept.
Hoping to order one in December. Would like to get the 5.9L as opposed to the new 6.7L with emissions.
