Mega cab versus Quad - Can't decide
Go for the Quad Cab. It thinkthere is alot of room in the back for most people and unless you are carting aroung 5 adult men all the time the QC is a great choice. It will do every thing you want it to do as well as park and look more proportionate. I had 4 large hunters in mine and it worked very well this year. As I figure it.."Its your rig so the front is going to look and feel the same regardless what you get."
Just when you think I'm sold on the Mega cab, someone has to come in and make a logical case for the Quad. Thanks Mystro, you are echoing many of my justifications for the Quad cab. As you can see in my signature, although there are 5 of us, 3 of us are young children. And with me and my wife hovering around 5'9ish, they probably won't grow up to be giants. And, as I've mentioned before, the quad actually makes better use of the the front center position. But, then there's all that interior room in the Mega for everything from snow boots to boogie boards (central CA - centrally located between snow & surf). Oh well, if there's one thing this discussion has proven, it's that this isn't necessarily an easy decision.
Mega Cab all of the way. I have a 06 CTD Laramie Mega and i love it. I have had 5 big people, all around 6'5' about 300lbs and we were just comfortable. All of them were fine and dandy while driving throught the muddy pasture going to a manhole site. It also gave me a chance to show off my truck in the mud :-), all of the others were 4x2's (wimps). All of the people were amazed at how big the back seat was. The only complaint was that one big dude sat in the middle, and he had a large stomach, and him trying to get the middle shoulder strap on him with the other guys trying to buckle up as well was pretty funny. I have a son that is 6'3' and he is extremely comfortable in the back. Turns on his iPod and leans back the seat and just enjoys life, in MY TRUCK. All of his friends seem to like the truck as well, so it makes me a popular person among the youngens. (he gets to drive it everyonce in a while). Oh, and if you cant park a real truck, than you dont need to be driving it, get a Hyundai. :-).
i live in dallas and have strated to notice a few of the new Mega cabs. They are HUGE! i had my qc next to one in the parking lot and couldnt see my truck when i went to look from the other side of the mega. Personaly i have no kids ( being 19) and all i really need is extra space for my friends or co-workers. Just make sure you get what you need for YOUR needs. post some pics when you get her!
is the suspension higher on the mega cabs? my truck was about 2 inches shorter when next to the mega cab. and mines stock.

Personally, as was stated above, I believe unless you are hauling around a lot of giant people then you should go with the quad cab. I am 19 and I hual my friends around all the time in my truck because they all drive beaters. 5 people and sometimes 6 people are in my truck on trips to the beach, or the slopes with no problems. As for storage I have more than I need. I have a big storage under my front middle seat, as well as under the entire back seat. Usually I store my backpack and stuff under there, as well as my tool kit, and tow hitch. Even with the mega cab, if you have a lot of stuff to take, more than half of it will be going in the bed anyway. Tough decision, love both trucks... Perhaps you will find the mega cab is more suitable for you.. Good luck, you cannot go wrong either way!
Before deciding on the Power Wagon, I tried out the Mega Cab and the Quad Cab w/short bed...
Didn't feel the extra rear room was worth the loss of manuverability you get with the long wheelbase and also being stuck with the smaller (6.25ft.) bed.
Parking lots and U-turns in a Mega Cab or a long wheel base QC are a bit challenging.

Rum,
I bought the Mega Cab over the quad for good reasons. We tried both trucks out with the kids sitting in it to compare. I had a 2001 Suburban with a 6.0-4:10 set up that after 5 years was giving me grief. It had enough space for the 3 kids, but it acted like it wanted to blow up going up steep hills towing our 28ft camper. I chose a Hemi over the CTD because I only tow a few times a year and didn't make sense to get the CTD. As to manuverablity, I have no problem at all-course I drive a 72 passenger school bus everyday so this is cake compared to that.
I do watch where I park because no matter what size truck you have, little cars don't always park in a spot correctly. I'd rather be away from cars anyway-less dings.
Now I have 2 teenagers and one who's just about 9. They all fit comfortably in the back-they have room to stretch out their legs more so than a quad cab. I wanted room for a cooler on the floor during long trips-NY to Orlando-Myrtle Beach this year. 17 hour days in any vehicle isn't fun for kids, but they never complained about not being able to lean back and get comfortable. All pillows, blankets, movies and food were in the back with the kids and it was no problem at all. We also wanted a better place to carry bikes/scooters when we traveled rather than craming them in the inside of the camper. It's been a big help with carrying the 20ft carpet we have for outside the camper too. I can now get into the camper when traveling if needed without crawling over coolers, bikes and the rug. I do have a hard tonneau on the bed for around town driving.
My mileage on the Mega Cab is a bit better around town-12.8 than what I got with the Suburban. Towing I got about 10.7 @65mph with @7000lbs of weight. I did a bit better with the Suburban on that-but the Hemi out powers the Suburban anyday. We sometimes head up Rt.17 outside Monticello NY and there's a hill there that the tach on the Suburban would climb to 4500+ and dropped down to 45mph and with the Hemi it hit all of 2200 and launched up the hill at 65mph. Hands down better tow vehicle all around.
I like my Mega Cab very much. I don't think as a family of 5 we would have been as happy traveling with the quad cab. Just not enough space for kids, food and junk.

Lot's of good points on the quad cab. However, squirtbottle has thrown down the guantlet on my truck driven' skills, so I mgiht be backed into a corner now...lol.
Hey deanJ: I think the Mega may be just a tad higher due to an increased rake of the roofline necessary for the longer cab? Unless it was a 3500, which usually sit a little higher. Or...it could have had a leveling kit?
JRH: I too was considering the Power Wagon. Wasn't sure that the towing capacity would serve me well over the years though. Many say the Hemi tows just fine with light to moderate loads, but when you get into these California mountains it becomes a case of ... "How well does it tow?" But I do like to do a little mild offroading now and again. And those Power Wagons are just so darn cool.
Nelliebly: Interesting comments on the Suburban. We had also considered going with a Suburban instead of the Ram truck. Your towing and mileage comments make me feel good about our current decision.
