which one should i get
ok guys I'm going to be up grading from my 2001 ram sport 5.9 to a 04-05 ram. the thing is i wont to know is there a big difference in the performance between the hemi and the regular 4.7. from what i see the price seems to be about 3000-4000 more then the 4.7
i saw the stats on the auto trader where the 4.7 only has 240 hp is this correct? the reason I'm asking is my wife 04 suv is a v6 and has 225. also does anyone know the hp for the hemi? I'm sure the 4.7 is better then my 5.9 in my 01. its getting old and its not a spring chicken anymore.

the hemi has 345 horsepower from the factory
the 4.7 does have either 235 or 240 so the hemi's got an extra 100 horse about
If your leaning towards the 4.7 for gas mileage just know that the hemi and the 4.7 get about the same and sometimes the 4.7 gets less because of the extra gas needed to push the truck
i would go with the hemi.......

I was in the same boat as you and decided to get the hemi. Gas mileage is about the same and the hemi has butt loads more power. 4.7 can have 240 or 260 depending which one you get as far as i have read but the 5.7 has 345 wonderful horsepower. Hemi is better imo.
Go with the Hemi. It was a $995 option, so I don't understand why all the trucks you look at are considerably more. Perhaps the other options?
As far as pricing goes, I like to find a comparable truck at Carmax and shoot for a grand or two less at a dealer.

yes they where more because the chose of used ones that had the hemi are loaded and that what i wont loaded. I'm giving myself a treat, I'm due for some minor heart surgery on the 15th and after that i will give myself a x-Xmas present. the wife doesn't mind to much since i have a buyer for my current truck. after i put the money towards the new truck i should only have a extremely small payment. also are there plenty of bolt on's to add even more horse power.
if it comes 345 stock I'm sure after flow master muffler and a k&n air system i should be able to add another 25+ to that.
thanks for all the reply's.

i'm not too sure what the 4.7l has for hp. but the 5.7l hp has 290 hp to the wheels. the 345 hp is measured from the crank but don't get me wrong the hemi still goes like snot. i was driving down a road in the city when a 4.7l ram come up beside me exact same truck same color and everything. we started racing and well i couldn't see too much of him when we started going i don't know how far he was back because there were cars all over in front of me so i didn't want to hit no one. sometimes i think the hemi doesn't have enough power for a truck that size i wouldn't want to go any smaller than it. but then im not to worried about fuel millage either.
Don't worry about "having enough" bolt ons. You can get a superchip which I did and that adds a good 15-20 HP and gives firmer shifts. Then next i'm doing a volant CAI which is good for around 10HP and their forced induction add on which is good for 4HP and i will also soon be doing a full exhaust with high flow cats and headers. I should be in the low 14 range with all that stuff...perhaps high 13's being that I have the rcsb 2wd on 17's. You can also get a new cam which is good for 25-35 HP for around 300 or so. The ram has plenty of good bolt ons for power. Get the hemi, you will love it if you are coming from a 5.9. I also own a 98 rcsb 4x4 ram on 33's with the 5.2 and it has intake and exhaust and my 06 will eat it alive.
