every 3000 miles ??
Ok took my 2007 SLT to the dealer for oil change, put in Mobil 1 synthetic cost was $63.00 for the 3000 mile maintenance, oil should be good for 6000 miles, but taking it to the dealer ever 3000 miles like the manual says is going to be costly, I dont want to void the warranty.
I'm sure you can do it yourself for less than half the cost you paid for an oil change. While you're at it, install a Mobil 1 or Purolator Pure One filter, or WIX. These are all good filters. 7 qts, a filter---good to go!!
3000 miles is the standard for the industry. IF you really want to know just how long you can run your oil before it breaks down have an oil Analysis done! I do mine every 6000 on synthetic. I drive mostly highway but also city as well. Unless you have a turbo or something else that would add extra heat to the engine....3000 miles is just a waste!
I use to change oil every 3,000. When I switched to synthetic many, many years ago I went to changing every 5,000. (Filter every time.) This has worked for me. I have several vehicles. Many are over 15 years old. Most have a 100,000 plus on them. I run them as hard as I want too and tow and play too. I don’t have a one I wouldn’t hop in and drive to the west coast in. Last 2,500 mile trip I chose my 95 Dakota 6 cyl. with 145,000 miles. I had a load to haul but figured I would leave my newer Ram at home and save putting the miles on it.
Today’s vehicles burn cleaner with less pollution to the crank case. Most manufactures recommend “7,500†mile oil changes.
I worked it out where everything I own comes up on the 5,000 mile interval on the speedo. Doesn’t matter if it is 25,000 miles, 30,000 miles or 125,000 miles, 130,000 miles. Its time to change. This is easy to keep up with. I didn’t have problem with regular oil in the past. I just feel that the synthetic gives me more room for error at little additional cost with the 5,000 mile intervals.

$63.00 for an oil change is way too much.
What is the advantage of running expensive oils and filers? To make you engine last longer and get better milage. Well paying $43.00 more than you should for an oil change negates any benefits of using expensive oil.
At 100,000 miles, every 3000 miles means 33 oil changes x $43.00 too much means you will over spend by $1433 at 100,000 miles. That savings put incrementely into an ing 4% interest account will more than pay for a new motor at 100,000 miles.

Although, i don't have a Hemi, I do have a 02 Ram QC 4.7LTR V-8 and I use Mobil 1 Synthetic oil. I change my oil every 5000, to 6000 miles even though i could easily go 7000 miles. I did some reading on the topic of Oils, and Mobil 1 gets good write ups.
Bj's sells mobile one for $29.95 a six pack Synthetic .My local Chrysler Dealer will change my oil for $20.00 This includs the filter. They do all Chrysler products for that price. And they through in the 21 point check up to boot. $49.95 beats $63.00 every time.
Every 3K is if you have extreme use; normal use is every 6K.
I have had several vehicles that approached 200K miles, and as soon as they go off warrenty I go to a 5K cycle for oil. Every 3K for an average driver is overkill IMHO. It wastes oil and costs money.
