Default Autosites in US

Hi, I´m into finding a used Dodge Ram 2500 QC (2002-2005) in the US. Since I live in Sweden the car will be imported to Sweden. I´m looking for great internetsites where I can search the hole US for pickups like the mentioned.

I would also like to know if there are any special areas in the US where the pickups are in better condition, which area has most pickups and other things that can be good to know when searching for trucks in the US?Are there any "bad-reputation areas"?

All help is appreciated!!

Regards

Swedan,

Try these.

http://www.autotrader.com/

http://www.usedcars.com/

As far as good and bad areas I really couldnt say but I would use the third link to get an idea if the price the seller is asking is equal to the actual value. Carfax.com also allows you to search the V.I.N. for things such as accidents, repairs, service, etc. I would really consider using carfax before you buy just to make sure you dont get a salvaged vehicle (flood damage - New Orleans, etc.)

Good luck

Thank you for the answer BlkRam69!

How does the VIN number work and where do you find it, do you find it on the car somewhere or in the papers? Carfax.com seems to be a great service for a car purchaser, we don´t have anything like it in Sweden.

About US Zip/postal codes, can I find a list of these codes on the internet? Too bad that searching the hole country (instead of each postal code) is impossible. Are there "millions" of zipcodes in the US?

Niclas,

Yes there are many many zip codes. I would start by looking up the zip codes for the capitol cities of each state by using google search and then look for "Iowa + capitol" "Illinois + Capitol" etc. (DesMoines, Iowa - Springfield, Illinois - Sacramento, California etc.)

Then use the used car sites with these zip codes. You can search up to 500 miles from each zip code so this should give you a good set of trucks to look at.

Once you have your zip code this site can give you and idea of approximately where it is in the continental U.S. I dont know if it is very useful but I thought it was kinda cool.

http://acg.media.mit.edu/people/fry/zipdecode/

You can use Yahoo maps or Mapquest to get directions to your truck from anywhere here in the U.S.(airports etc.)

All in all if your lookin at a truck thats only a couple years old I dont think youll have too many issues to worry about but,.......

I would have a mechanic here in the states give the truck a good look becouse as soon as that truck leaves the continental United States there is no manufacturers (Dodge Chrysler) warrenty.

Oh and the VIN numbers, Some (most) of the listings on the used car sites do have the VIN listed.

Good luck and let us know if you do find a truck!

Jason

I forgot,

Are you looking for a Hemi or a Cummins Turbo Diesel?

The reason I ask is if you have questions about the Hemi trucks then the "3rd gen" forum here is a great resource.

If your looking at the Cummins diesel then the "Dodge Cummins Diesel" forum here would be the best place to ask!

Again, Good luck!

Hi Jason,

Thank you for giving me such good answers!

Since the gasoline/diesel cost around 5 dollar per gallon here in Sweden the only option for me is the Cummins Diesel. The fuel economy is of great value but I would also like the idea of 4-digit torque i.e. I´m going for diesel all the way. Is rust common on cars in the US, do the pickups come with any kind of rustprotection on the chassi/underbody? I guess rust is more common in "snowy" parts of US.

I´m in no hurry finding a car, I might give the search 1 or 2 years.

Thanks alot!

Hej Howard!

I live in north of Sweden, in Umeå. I do buisness in "Mo i Rana" sometimes, been there 1 time 2006 and 2-3 times 2005. I visited a market in Mosjoen in september 2005. Where do you live?

Looking at http://www.expresspartsinc.com/index.html I wonder what make them so special for exporting gods? Most of the companies in the US do export gods to the rest of the world as well. Have you bought a car through them?

I guess you drive dodge, what modell?

Hälsningar Niclas

Hei Niclas.

A company I worked for earlier imported a lot of cars and auto parts from express parts. They will find a truck for you put it in a container arrange shipping and all that stuff for you. The only thing you`l have to do is transfer the money, they will do the rest for you. I think it`s best to do business with a large copany with a god reputation and maybe pay some extra $$$$$ for it, rather than do it with a small one with no money in the bank.

Have you checked what it will cost you in tax to import a diesel truck to sweden ?

I live in Alta, it`s 800 km north of Umeå.

I drive a 2003 Dodge Ram Hemi laramie with Thunderroad package.
