Default '07 Ram 1500

Hello all, I'm thinking about buying a new Ram 1500 and I would like to know more about the new engines that can run on 4 and 8 cylinders. The dealer told me it was standard on all '07 1500's with Hemi's. Can someone verify this? Also, what mileage will the new 1500's get running on 4 cylinders? Thanks

It was true for the 06's as well, the most I have ever got was about 20.4 MPG. The was a round trip of about 130 miles and I was very light on pedal and the total was figured using pen and paper not the overhead computer. I usally avg about maybe 15-16 MPG, keep in mind the the MDS system is only active in standard mode not tow/haul or O/D off.

I had an '03 Hemi Ram, and a week ago, bought a new '07 Hemi Ram with the MDS engine. With the '03, about the best I could do was 16 mpg, even on trips.

Yesterday, I drove from South Carolina to Delaware with my new Ram, crusing consistently at 75 mph, and got 18 mpg with an engine that had less than 1000 miles on it. I am anticipating, once broken in, that I should be able to get somewhere in the vacinity of 20 mph highway. In a nutshell, MDS does work and significantly improves mileage.

I only have 1,200 miles on mine as well, I hear that the Hemi hits it's stride at around 10k as far as MPG go.
Congrats on your new 07 also

I have an 06 with mds (not all 06's came with mds) and cruising at 70 today on my way into work I saw just 18 mpg on the over head, I always do pen and paper calculations though when I fill up and it's normally pretty bad because i'm 18 with a hemi with an intake, superchips and soon to have an at3030 so I drive it like a race car.

Amazing!! i got a lemon. i swear most likely people are not using their calculators right. I am lucky to get into the high 15 with my 06 QC 4x4. Thats cruising around 70 the whole way. Its about 150 miles round trip. i do this every other week and i consistently reach the high 15s. Thats doing the math and usually the overhead is pretty darn accurate. Reaching 20 with a QC,,,,,,,,,,COME ON DUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the 4.7 and rarely see 20 on the Hwy, once or twice on flat road and going 66 mph with he cruise set seems to get me the best mpg, doing 75 no way, more like 16-18 at the most.

It is true, 20.4 is the max MPG that I have had with mine. Did I say it was common? Heck no, but if I am very light on the pedal it can happen. When I go to SLC from my home which is about 55Miles up in the mountains I have seen 20.4MPG. Now a huge portion of the trip there is downhill, going down hill with MDS I dont use hardly any gas, coming back is another matter and it seems to even it out some. I usally don't drive so mellow, so it is rare but it can happen.

Guess i should also mention YA ITS GOT A HEMI ans also here in Miami Florida its flat. I have tried everything from keeping the RPMs under 2000 even during acceleration, going to synthetic and keeping the tires properly inflated. Sure wish i could even get close to 17mpg. I am learning though to expect it. Flat out the truck is awesome!
