Do you pull the fuse, then put it back in before turning the key on.

Or leave it out until you hear the chimes, then install the fuse?

Odd it would work while it's out, but maybe that is what holds the memory?

You unplug the fuse and go through all the steps and then put it back in as the last step.

There is one mistake;

You turn to key to START (the truck will not turn over with the fuse out) and hold it there until you hear a chime or hold it longer to hear a second chime. 1st chime is pcm, 2nd is tcm.

the PCM is the ECU, it stands for the powertrain control module. I tried this last night and it acted just as described. the fuse is under to hood on the front driver's side, its fuse #23 on my '04 5.7L. I havent gotten to drive it yet to see if theres a difference but ill let you guys know.
How long do you leave it out. >
