I got a standard to a mini adapter, but a regular audio jack is a 3 line conductor, I need a 4 line, since my phone came with headphones that have a built in mic. So when you are listening to music you can receieve and call.. hands free... neat, but it makes it a bugger to output it to anything else.

Here is what I have, but it won't work!? http://www.expansys.ca/p.aspx?i=119198

Notice the 3 lines, versus 2 on normal jacks. The pic is the mini 4 line.

Get a FM transmitter. About $30. It plus into your lighter and then info your headphone jack. Match the station on your radio to your transmitter and you now have your iPod tunes running through your radio... and your neighbors, if he's close enough and tuned into the same station!

I've bought and returned two different models of the Belkin FM modulators. While they "worked" the sound was not good enough to be considered acceptable. At least not for me. If you're used to CD or Satellite quality sound or even good clear FM sound this may not cut it for you either. Maybe there's a better brand out there but I just gave up on this as a solution. Like I said while it worked, it was definitely lo-fi compared to any of the other sudio sources in my truck. This was in my old truck with a kenwood deck so YMMV.

Well, it's only as good as your source. If you are using an MP3 player, the it will NEVER sound as good as an original CD etc since the hi's & lo's have been removed to be compressed. You don't notice this in a set of headphones, but you do on a decent stereo system.

It's the ol' give'n'take situation....

I had no problems with my transmitter. You can get ones that send a stronger signal.. but a signals a signal!? It's all about the source...

You can download 192 bit MP3's which are about the highest compression quality. Anything higher doesn't really make a difference.

Hi all,

This is my first post so bear with me.

I just installed this:

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=931

It took about an hour (most of it spent trying to figure out how to get the dash out) and it works like a champ. I wish I would have taken pictures to post a little DIY but I didn't think about it.

It doesn't have steering wheel controls since I'm using a "Y" cable but they do sell an iPod adapter that might give you that option. I didn't want to spend the extra money in case this one didn't work. It turns out that it works great and I really don't mind using the scroll wheel on the iPod.

This connector also allows you to keep your Sirius radio hooked up.

Overall I'm extremely pleased. No more FM modulator.

I have the basic radio and it has the aux input as well. According to the dealer and stereo shops teh upgraded radios dont have this feature, thats why Dodge wants to sell teh adaptor for them( Look in the accessory book). My suggestion would be buy a newer aftermarket deck and have the ipod hookup in it. Alpine and Pioneer make really nice ones. I am getting the Pioneer d1 system.

Hope that helps. You can also pickup the single CD deck cheap on e-bay.

Thanks Randy, this is what I was looking for. I also have the REC head unit and want to keep all of its functionality. Shame their solution doesn't allow the head unit to control the IPOD but I'm not complaining...

Cheers,
Mark
