open your glove box and look at the back. there should be a parts list to what rear and gearing you have in your truck. if not take down you vin # and bring it to the dealer and they will be able to tell you.. also you may have snapped you carrier rings to the diff. might have to go to the dealer to check that out

I would definitely take the rear cover off, and see if the LSD clips have broke yet. A doner axle that I just bought had broken clips and another one I saw on Friday at the dealership had some broken clips also. Normally the clips is not detremental, but these clips got hung up between the Carrier and the bearing cap, which caused a deep groove into the bearing cap, and LOTS of metal shavings. As soon as I get the pics off of my camera at lunch I'll post some of what I found.

Yeah.
Dodges don't have "locking diff's" as standard.
What we 1500 guys have if bought as an option, is a poor LSD which has many issues of both bad design and poor quality.
The retaining clips, commonly refered to as "C clips", come loose and foul up the carrier end caps by grinding away at them.
This causes irreversable danamage to the whoe axel, including wheel bearings etc due to the lubricant being contaminated with fine metal etc, which necessitates the COMPLETE removal and replacemarnt of the unit except for your brake shoes, which are not covered under any warranty.
It's a bummer and one which I and MANY Dodge owners, have filed a report on the http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/web site.
I ENCOURAGE ALL Dodge 1500 owners with the LSD option, to log a complaint with these people.
Dodge/Chrysler/Mercedes or whatever they call themselves these days, really need to get on top of this issue before somone is killed.
A corporate manslaughter suite is not the way forward if you want to sell trucks or cars Dodge!
Or is that just it.........you want to DODGE the issue?
I have just read an article where a Dodge owner had his diff go out at about 30mph and when the truck finished hopping and fishtailing around narrowly missing other cars and the Armco etc..............well as he stated and I quote "it's a good job I wasn't on the freeway doing 70"???????
Can you imagine a totally locked out diff at 70mph?
WOW!
We LSD guys are running around with a grenade inour diffs waiting to EXPLODE!
So, come on people, log those complaints with the NHTSA.
Dodge might........and should,,,,,,,,isue a recall!
Al.
