Default Muffler shop installed the wrong muffler

I had a local muffler shop install a Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow. I guess they didn't have any 3" mufllers in stock so they reduced the 3" pipe to fit a 2 1/2" muffler. I didn't notice until I got the truck home and inspected their work.

Just to make sure this was not the thing to do I called Flowmaster technical assistance who told me to bring it back. I'll be interested to see what the shop says when I return tomorrow...

This is the first mod I've done on my new truck so I'm not very happy to say the least.

Isn't that something? You pay them, and you would think that they would give you what you paid for. But instead, they try and rip you off.. Make sure they honor the repair.... And make sure you let others in your area know about what they did.. and don't forget the BBB, they should be told about this...........

I'll give thenm a chance to fix the problem. If they won't then the BBB will by my first of many ways to make it right.

I've read on the forum that a 2.5" pipe is the best size.

2.5-2.75 is the biggest i would go unless youre pushing alot of horses. bigger isnt always better when it comes to exhaust. go too big and you lose back pressure, too small and theres too much airflow restriction.

2.5 is the stock pipe size from the mainifold back to the cat's, 02 sensors, on a 5.7 stock ex... The tail pipe can be any size you want, but it will have to be squeazed down to fit a 2.5 out let which defeats the purpose of a 3' tail pipe.

A good mufler shop will take you under your truck and show you the best options so you know what your getting, I had a dynomax ultra flow installed on my 06 Ram which has x flow patern, 2 inlets, 2 out lets, having the Y pipe cut out woke up my truck ten fold.

the stock size on my 06 was 3 inch from y-pipe to stock muffler ( had one resonator behind the stock muffler) . with the new system i got a flowmaster 40 series 3 inch in and dual 2.5'sgot rid of the rear resonator... did you just replace the muffler? did you go with dual outs? and which 50 series muffler did you get also?

The stock pipe is 3". They installed a piece of pipe so it would fit the 2 1/2" inlet of the muffler then expanded the 2 1/2" outlet of the muffler to fit the 3" pipe. So the system goes from 3 to 2 1/2 back to 3. The tech people at Flowmaster told me that this was bad because the muffler wouldn't scavenge properly and I would lose power.

It's a 50 Series deltaflow. They ordered me a new muffler today and will exchange it once it comes in.

I've had dual 2.5's on my Hemi for the last2 years and so far everything is fine with the series 40 Flowmasrters. Great sounding.
