2002 Dodge Ram keeps dying
I have a 2002 dodge ram 4.7 L. My truck keeps dying i have replaced the battery, alternator and a/c condensor fan this past month. My mechanic said sometimes he a/c condensor fan can run the battery out. My Gauge cluster clicks when it dies i dont know if this is normal as well. I tried disconnecting the gauge cluster to see if thats the problem but my lights stay on.. ANY IDEAS PLEASE HELP
The computer codes. I assume that you know that all new vehicles have computer systems that constantly monitor all of the mechanics/electronics/etc. of the vehicle. If something is truely wrong, then the computer will locate the problem area so that you can repair it quickly. You can check the codes by using this procedure:
1. Turn the key to the on position (but do not start) 3 times in a row quickly. You will either see a 4-digit number, or it will say 'done' ...
Do this, and if a number comes up, post it and someone on here will be able to tell you what it means. If it says 'done' then that means that the computer has found nothing wrong, at which point you may want to take it to the dealership, and have them look further into it. I hope this helps some.

if the truck has the factory alarm system and you dont drive the truck much, that will cause the system to drain. also if you have an aftermarket sound system double check to see if they hard wired the system or went through the ignition.
I had this happening to mine and I took it into the dealer and they reflashed the computer and it took care of it for a few months until there was new flash that needed to be added to the computer again.
Ok the code that comes up is P1687. But i took the instrument cluster off and my truck hasn't died since. I'm now confused on whether to by a new instrument cluster thinking there may be a short drawing power causing my battery to die. Or give up and take it to the dealer which i can't afford. PLEASE HELP

You could have possibly had a lose connection in your cluster which got seated better after you removed and replaced the cluster. Personally, I would wait for the problem to repeat itself before dropping the cash on a new cluster or a dealership visit.
