Depending upon the headers, it can be very easy. In my case I jacked up the front end. Removed the wheels and the wheel-well liners. This provides good access to the exhaust manifolds. From there it just a matter of how much rust, frozen bolts, etc. that you have to deal with. In my situation, I had to retighten the header bolts many-many times and got to the point where I could do it all in < 30 minutes. I finally gave up and replaced the headers with the stock manifolds. This eliminated the gasket leaks, made everything much quieter, and now I just drive the thing instead of re-tightening the header bolts :-)

LOL... yeah I hear you on that one Roger... that is something I didnt think of... what a pain that can be.... did you notice a big power difference between the two??? or were you too mad about the "re-tightening" in order to notice.... thanks for your response Roger.. Chris

with mufflers, headers probably give about 3% gain

headers might win you some drag races
but the hassle for daily driving
for a 2-4% gain is very questionable

I have been runnning Doug Thorley headers since I bought my truck in 04 and love them. Then again I am asupporter of headers. I have had them on my 95 Ram, 01 Ram nad of course my 04 Ram. Yes it is pain to tighten your bolts every so often but it really isnt the bad. The hardest part of the install is by far the drivers side. Getting your on the back side between the steering shaft and all that other stuff i.e. brake lines. Then again it is so easy that a cave man can do it. NOT! It really is not that bad but it's not on my top ten list of fun. When buying headers make sure you get a good flange width nothing less than 3/8. The reason why is that headers maintain a very high heat level and a thin flange will tend to warp alot easier. Thus the constant re-tightening of bolts. Again headers and a good exhaust system to me are well worth it. Reduceing the internal backpressure to the extent that headers do helps the motor run more effiecently. Good luck I hope this helps.

It definatly helps... that is the kinda information I was looking for... i was thinking that Headers and an exhaust would give me a little more than like a 12hp gain.... I know on older cars it made a huge difference.... I have a 06 QC Hemi and put a Hypertech power programmer and a Brute Force CAI on it... I wonder if the combination with a good set of headers and an exhaust will make a difference

if you care about your warranty stay away from internal mods such as a cam. I am doing a cam on my 06 but only when my warranty is done for. Get some headers and a well flowing exhaust and it will be nice. What headers have you been looking at? I can't find anything for my 06 in the way of long tubes.
