It is alot easier than you think. I on the other hand will not be putting tow hooks on my ride as I have the bull bar and it is mounted where the tow hooks would be.

The tow hooks are not going to add much to the look of the truck and chances are that you will never use them. If you get a bull bar, brush guard, or a lower grill insert, you will need the mounts for one of those. You will spend just as much for the tow hooks as you would for a bull bar and alot more if you go with the lower grill insert. Also with a bull bar, you can get a winch if needed or even lights to be mounted on it. Now there is another syle of bull bar that can be purchased that uses a bracket that comes from under the bumper, but kinda defeats the purpose of why it is there. This is used more for show.

When I bought mine in '04, I had it down between a Black QC 4x4 Hemi with "Off Road" pkg. at one dealership and a Red QC 4x4 Hemi with "Laramie" pkg. at another. The Laramie stickered for about a grand more, but both were offering me within $200 of each other. The stealership with the Laramie was also showing me about $700 more for my trade. I also wanted the leather seats in the Laramie (ever try to get red Georgia clay out of cloth?). But I told them the deal killer was I would NEVER buy a 4x4 without skid plates, and the Off Road pkg. truck at the other dealership had them, and they were beating their deal (OK, so I lied). So they threw them in as a closer. As it's a package deal, I got the tow hooks too.
Funny thinng is, I lost them both. The skids had to come off when I got my lift kit (lift kit had a front diff. plate and I've been meaning to get under there & see if I can mod the x-fer case plate to go back on) and I had to ditch the tow hooks when I got the Warn grille guard.
SIDE NOTE: The other thing I tried to get them to throw in was the LSD that the off-road truck had that my Laramie did not. They wouldn't budge on that one --- THANK GOD!!!

I think you nailed it Hammer, the "off-road" package got them. Like you, sad if you have a good heavy duty front bumper, you won't need hooks. Most good bumpers will come with them or just use a shackle. I have them and have used them but only as a last reort. I'd rather pull someone out with all my forward gears then just reverse. Besides, no plastic in the back that could get broken.

I didn't think my tow hooks were quite functional enough so I replaced them.

The winch mount had some extra holes in the bottom of it on both sides of the winch (for mounting a bigger winch, I guess) so I bored them a little bigger and put some BIG U-bolts through. This gave me someplace to attach a couple of 4.5 ton clevis'.
So I basically got the tow hooks back that I gave up when I added the grille/brush guards.

there is an option for them when you build a truck on the website. i believe its like 180 extra. i dont know if you built a truck online and just overlooked it or if you went to a dealer lot and the one you picked didnt have them but there is an option for them.
All 4X4's should have tow hooks!
no you need to get the off road package, skid plates tow hooks come with that.
