Just did an oil change....
Hey Guys,
I don't want to rain on any parades, but------- the tick you hear from the 5.7 is caused by excess valve to valve guide clearances. The only way you'll REALLY be able to get rid of the tick is to have the guides rebuilt using tighter tolerances. The most important thing to do is just simply change the oil at the prescribed intervals. Personally, I'm using Amsoil 5w-30 XL, with a mobil-1 M1-301 filter. That is my preference. I have had good luck with Amsoil in the past and am staying with it. These days, as long as you use good quality oil, change at the proper intervals, you can't go wrong. My last 93 Dak ran for 208,000 miles on Pennzoil 10w-30, before I quit trusting the Auto tranny in it, and decided it was time to step up to my 2005. When I sold it, it had never been rebuilt, started great every time, even in the coldest weather, and never smoked--at all. I currently run nothing but Amsoil in all the drive train components, but once again, thats just my preference.

I just bought an 03' Ram 1500, with the 3.7L and about 72k miles. What would be the best oil for a higher milage ram? RP is what I was going to go with at 10w-30 since I live in TX (we don't really get cold weather) but if someone has a better suggestion, lemme know?
Pesonally, I wouldn't bother with RP. If you really think you need a high mileage oil, give Maxlife Synthetic a try. If price is a consideration, Maxlife, Penzoil, and Castrol make good dino HM oils. You might also, give Rotella T synthetic 5W40 a try. It's a relatively inexpensive syn with a good track record. M1 5W40 Turbo Truck Diesel is another option.
