RE: WTF power steering pump at 44K miles??
Symptoms ditto to swoosh, thought it was the cold weather Tuesday but the pump was 1/2 qt low. Leaking at the end near the radiator. Most likely the return line, spring clamp. Topped off with ATF+4 ($9 a qt?!?!), hopefully caught it pre-destruction.45k on the odo.

There is a Technical Servie Bulleton. (TSB) on them leaking in the rams. And if yours is leaking and you point it out, and that its a TSB they will fix it for free. Going out completly i dont know about, but leaking is a known problem and they wont tell you if you dont tell them.

So, your saying if you take it to the dealer and point it out they will fix it for free? I noticed that the lines are both very wet and I followed them to the cooler? in the frot of the truck and it's soaked. I'm going to assume that'snot normal. What could be causing the leaks?

Its an 03 1500 with the 5.7, funny thing is i called and asked what the progress was and they said they just got it in the garage and to call back later. call again and they said no your truck was never in the garage yet. lol they messed up...there was another ram in there with the same problem!! hahaha. I got the extended service warranty so Im good till 70K miles. Sucks that it blew, really dissappointed me. I checked on some sites and there pretty cheap to replace...under 65$.

oh not for installation too...but if you wanted to buy and install the part yourself the pump is around 60-65$. With installation say its 55$/hr and it takes them 4 hours to do it (total guestimate) thats 220$ in labor and 60ish for the part...so probly somewhere around 300$ total?

Hey guys i thought you might want to know i took my truck in today for a huming pump and switch to mobile1 synthetic (tick still there lol) anyhow
they called me and first thing they checked was a HIGH pressure hose from PS pump as its very commen problem and thats was exacley my problem
it definetley didnt get covered by them .The part coast me 126.33+36.50 and the huming is gone no leak back to normal.
Aperantley these high pressure hoses give out and leak very slow and drain you pump slowley of fluid and damage before you notice and top up,
I myself notice a couple days ago the small drips an driveway , looked under hood and the bottom was wet , topedup the fluid as it was low and the sound never went away so today gotter done , pump runs perfect still the first one (96k) So for those who describe the same issue best to take care of it ASAP , it will cast you a pump

yeah PS pumps arent that expensive and most guys can do the install at home. I have installed hydraulic steering on a few rock crawlers so I doubt this would be much harder. Just check it every 5-10 thousand miles and make sure it's topped off and shows no signs of leaking and they should last the life of the vehicle.

Hmmm, my 04 was in for leaking lines right before the original warranty was up (made it by 300 miles and 3 days LOL). I am now getting a sticky assist when first starting out when things aren't fully warmed up yet. Is that a sign the pump was damaged? This is my first winter with it, bought it used in spring 06.
I did buy the extended warranty before it was too late.
