Default She would not go over 4000rpm!?!

I was in the process of pulling into traffic when I stepped on the gas to get up to speed and I could not get it to go over 4000 rpm. It started at about 3500rpm feeling like I was hitting the rev limiter and stopped climbing at 4000rpm. While I was coasting at about 50mph I put the truck in neutral and turned off the ignition, waited for a couple of seconds and then started it back up. After that I had no prob getting over 4000rpm. Anyone ever have this happen or heard of such a thing?

Thanks -Nick

I've heard of it happening in a chevy before. The chevy truck had a gear position sensor in the transmission go bad, so the rev limiter always thought the truck was in neutral. the rev limiter in the truck was set to not go any higher than 3000 rpm in neutral to protect the engine. But that truck also showed that it was in neutral all of the time on the instrument cluster. But keep in mind this was a chevy truck with an allison trans, so there's a slim chance its the same thing.

I had this happen with my Hemi, and you will not believe it, but it was the gas cap! I had just put a aftermarket cap on it as mine was stolen. About a week later I went to pass someone, nailed it and it is like the truck choked at 4K. I started dirving right to the dealership and just before I got there I thought about the cap. I pulled it off and it ran with no issues. Went in and bought a mopar cap, all has been well since.

I have heard about gas caps making vehicle through a code. I will check mine to make sure it was tightened all the way. I don't have to pump my own gas here in Jersey so the guy at the pump may have not put it back on right. I will be taking the truck into get a oil change on Monday. I will ask the service dept to look into it to see what they think. I love to here some of the **** they come up with.

Thanks again

The same thing happened to mine. The truck would not go over 4000 rpm's and not go into the next gear. So I stopped put it in park, restarted the truck and it never happened again. I think it has something to due with the gear shifter that it was stuck in 2nd even though it was in drive. I have had to have shifter repaired due tothe linkage breaking.

i had that happen to my truck the other day. when i was driving at 110 it was at its normal rpm like 1700 or something like that then it revved up to 2500rpm and the truck was slowing down. i put it to the floor and the rpm stayed the same but i still slowed down so i shut my truck off turned it back on worked fine kept doing a couple times later so i took it to dodge and they cleared the code been workin fine ever since. dodge told me that our trucks dont like cold weather.

Default My truck stops reving at 4,000 rpm

So I have a 2011 dodge ram larmie 5.7 hemi and when I go to get on it it revs only to 4,000 rpm and sounds like it’s redlining and I turned it off and started it again and still does it and the throttle response is kinda dog but once it gets to higher rpm’s it takes off but stops at 4,000 I’m very stumped any suggestions?

Got a CEL?
What codes?

I get it, that money light is a PITA but you really can't ignore it forever without running the risk of fouling expensive parts like the Cat. Besides, I can smell the cars in front of me when their light is on..

Put the ignition in "run" mode but do not start the engine. Slowly press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and slowly release it. Turn off the ignition.

Try the above to recalibrate the go pedal to the throttle body and tell me if it make a difference.
Good luck...
