Default Time for a new truck

Hey all,

I currently drive a 2005 Ram 1500 with the Hemi. Wife wants to get a camping trailer so we can take the kids camping. I've told her we need to upgrade to a 2500. As a mechanically ignorant person, I don't know whether to get the Hemi again or a diesel. I like the spunk of the Hemi. We live in the mountainous area of Northern California, so I need to drag this trailer up some decent hills. I have no desire to climb the hills at 10 mph. Soooo, which should I get? Local dealer lists the 2007 2500 diesel 4x4 SLT Big Horn for 33,999. Is that a good price? Your comments are appreciated.

Go for the diesel, that's actually a good price. If you just want the truck for towing then its diesel all the way, unless you'll be doing some mudding then go for the hemi. My family has always used a diesel on there camping trips.

the hemi in the 1500 will pull the trailer fine IMO, but if you just want to get a new truck then definantly go with the diesel.

I grew up in Sacramento so I know about those mountains, get the deisel. You will pull that trailer up huge passes no problem with a cummins. Better fuel economy as well.

Just my from my experiance and what i have heard if you are geting a 6sp tranny the hemi will be fine in the 2500. If you are getting the auto tranny get the diesel. I have a 1500 hemi and have towed a small popup camper many times to northern ny from nj and with the auto trans it shifts all the time to the point that it drives me crazy even in tow/hual mode. I am going to be trading my 1500 for a 2500 6spd hemi for that reason and gettin the hemi cause diesel is 60-80 cents more a gallon then gas hear. And as for the price if its a QC jump on it out hear you cant get one for under 38,000 with those options. just my 2 cents

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna look more seriously into the diesel now. I'll keep ya posted.

Even if it's $1 more a gallon the diesel will probably be more economical. The 2500 w/ hemi gets worse mileage than the 1500 w/ hemi. Diesel all the way.
