Default window tint

hey guys I saw some window tint in wal mart and I'v been thinking about getting it... What do you guys think? $12 window tint... Also, the truck already has window tint on it. If I got this, do I take the original off first? or just buy a lighter shade to make it the window tint?

Its not worth it, trust me haha. BUT, if you are going to go about it I would recommend taking off the original tint. That stuff is for ricers tho to tell ya the truth, it purples easily and it doesnt always come out nice. Take the hit on a professional install which isnt even that bad if you find a good deal. its way worth it. Had a friend try it and he just got pissed off and gave up on it haha. where do you live, if your around by me i can set you up with a great installer, he did mine and i love it. Im on long island, NY...

Cactus is right.....you get what you pay for. And as for removing the original tint.....you can't! (Unless it's not the factory tinted windows that you have) If you want purple windows that wrinkle and peel, buy the $12 Walmart. But I strongly recommend that you go to a professional tint shop, spend the extra money, and enjoy the difference. You might also want to keep in mind what your local laws are regarding tint, also. Some states are more stringent than others, and you could wind up being a great source of revenue for some local municipalities.

I used to tint windows here in Augusta, for a professional shop. If you are talking about aftermarket tint, you can remove it with a razor blade, and some windex. The ammonia in the windex will eat the glue pretty good(why most tint turns purple), you should be able to pick at a corner of the window to peel the tint up, if it is a warm day, park in the sun. Once you get a corner peeled, slowly pull the film off down the window. The slower the better, if it snatches off, the film may be off but all the glue is still there.

Once you have the film down a good way, on door windows I like to leave the window about 2 inches down, and pull the film down till it rests against the door. then spray the window use the razor blade and work it down the window, holding it flat as possible against the glass. You will see the glue coming up. Go slow. It is very easy to have the blade stick on some glue, flip over and you are bleeding everywhere(I know ).

The rear window is the same, unless you pull the film off and notice that the glass hs a factory tint all ready on it. Then do NOT USE A RAZOR BLADE. You can ruin the factory tint if you use a blade. I would suggest, parking with the rear window in the sun, pulling the old film off, liberally applying windex/ammonia window cleaner take a hot wash rag and rub the film with the hot rag. This will take longer and ruing a rag, so go to pep boys and get a bag o rags.

If you have never tinted windows before, save your money, and go to a shop. A good shop. A regular cab truck shouldnt cost more than 65.00 or 70.00 (with a solid back window, some like to charge more for a slider) extended cab shouldnt be but 10.00 or 15.00 more quad cab around 90.00, if they want to charge more, just bring it to me and I will do it for 60.00 LOL

You will also save money removing the film yourself.

Some good brands of film are:

LLUMAR (probably the best out there)
There ATR film comes in Charcoal or Bronze and has at least a 5 year nation wide warranty* depending on the shop. They also have platinum plus, which has a shiny look to it.

SUNGARD (Very good)
This is good, different types of this brand will look blue-ish, and green-ish.

Real factory tint is in the glass. It's kind of a coating, but auto glass is tempered and when they factory tint the rear window, like in a mini-van, suv, or pick-up its done to the glass, not put on the glass. I am not 100% sure how they do it, but the glass company does it, and I would describe it as chemically bonded to the inner layer of shatter proof glass.

you can tint the windows yourself, it's really not that hard....when i did mine, i took the rear door windows out just cause it was easier to do that then mess with the window in the door...and the rear window was a peice of cake

You took the window out?

That isthe first time I have heard of that. I have tinted windshields, the whole windshield, before they were installed, but taking a door window out to tint it seems like a crazy waste of time. When I re-did mine on sunday, I wanted to darken the rear door windows, and remove and darken the front door windows, it took me about an hour, even including removing the 20% I had on the front doors. I think it would take all day to remove the door panels, then the window from the regulator, tint it, and then re-install them on a QC pickup. But to each his own.

You tinted the front doors?

i tinted the rear doors and no it didnt take long to remove the window...it really only took about 1 1/2 hrs to get the windows out, tinted, and re-installed...already had the tint pre-cut before hand...things dont take long to do when you have the right tools and you get to work on it and dont slack off while doin it......

i tend to work fast....damn flat rate **** at the dealerships [:@]
