Cold air intake
Hey guys,
I ordered a Mopar CAI for my 2007 Ram Hemi on Ebay. Im just curious about the install and how difficult it is. Working under the hood aint my thing so I was thinking about having the dealer install it so I know its done correctly but... the dealer quoted 2 hours labor - $197. Service guy said it normally takes 1 hour but since I have the throttle body spacer it takes longer. Money isnt the issue but that seems a tad high. Id just rather have the dealer do it to stay on the safe side with warranty issues. any thoughts?
thanks, Kane

In all honesty, it will take you no more than 20 minutes....Just pull the old stuff out including the big box and air filter. Connect the new hose up and bolt it down...It will look like you took a lot more out then u out in. But def dont go to the dealer..Plus warranty issues???? Theres nothing you can mess up...
yah i agree, dont waste your money by having the dealer install it...just do it yourself and take pride in that...
and besides, if money is no issue...ya can always float me some so i can buy some more toys for my truck
lol

If you really don't want to do it yourself, just take it to a cheaper shop at least. It's an install that doesn't require any skill, so you definitely don't need to be paying dealer hourly rates.
pay a neighborhood kid to install it is that easy. and give him twenty for the trouble

Just out of curiosity I called my local dealer to see how much the Mopar CAI kit was compared to the K&N. The parts guy said Mopar didn't make the CAI for the 2007 Hemi. He also added that if I installed a non-mopar CAI such as the K&N I would void my lifetime warranty. I told him that's nuts. It's almost like saying you can't use mobil 1 oil or a puralator oil filer.
So how about some opinions. Is this guy in parts wrong on both Fronts? Is there a Mopar CAI for '07 Hemis? And how is using a non-mopar CAI different from using another non-mopar part like a air or oil filer?? The warranty voiding thing sounds like BS to me and a way to keep people from buying non-mopar parts.

i personally thing the mopar cai is way too high priced. it does teh same thing as any of the other intakes. the intake is easy enough to take off and put bakc on if you need to take it in to the dealer for work ( ifd it does void warranty i do not know)
if you look at the airbox there is 3 or 4 clips around it holding the cover on. flip those off and loosen the clamps around the accordian hose going to the air baffle on top of the motor. remove the ait sensor in the back ( just push in and twist) remove the breather tube. then remove the top of teh airbox with the hose attatched. the airbox isnt bolted on so you can can jjust pull up and it will come out. then you will want to take off the airbox plastic brackets. it is just two bolts into the sidewall. the engine cover(air baffle) is held on by 2 10 mm bolts. you will spot them easily. take them off and pull and the old intake is off. then just put your new intake into teh throttle body tighten the clamp and your good. reset the computer ( dont really have to but its a good idea) and badabing your done. it shouldnt take more than 20-30 mins.
