Need quick help, Amp install questions.
I have a 4 guage dual amp instal kit. First where should I mount the fuse, and second where do I get the power into the truck. 04 QC 1500. I would like to run the power in on the passenger side then under to the drivers seat to keep it away from my cb antena coax but I can reroute that if needed. Next where should I mount my splitter that splits the power wire to 2 8 guage wires? This is the kit I have http://www.directed.com/audio/essent...mp/default.aspwhere does the 4 guage ground go? Is it s second ground from the battery?
first question: mount the fuse outside of the cab closest to the battery since anything after the fuse is protected.
second: I would run the power wire into the cab through an existing grommet in the firewall. Anywhere is fine as long as youcan run it neatly. also keepin mind when laying out where to run the power wire is that your rca wires should not be run near the power wire to get the best sound quality.
Where you split the power wire is up to you. probably better off spliting it right before you need to runthe two individual8 guage wires.
4 ga ground wire goes to ground...not necessarily back to the battery.

I know it goes to ground but from where? There is no place to put it other then the amp but the kit came with 8 guage ground I assume is for that. Am I right?
The 4ga ground wire should go into the splitter and from there the 8ga is what should go to your amp. Or at least I hope that's how it goes. Can't recall ever seeing an amp that would accept a 4ga cable.
Ther is no place for a ground at the junction block or the fuse. There is one 4 in and one 4 out at the fuse block. There is one 4 in and two 8 out at the junction block. Thats why I am thinking it is to reinforce the battery ground. I was really hoping to find an exact location for the fuse block. I was thinking on the factory fuse box lid but that would be a pain if I needed in there. I can't realy find another smooth serface to mount my block to. I know it should be within 18 inches of the battery or closer but I just can't find a good place.
Fuse goes as close to the battery as possible. Power block should be somewhere near the amp. Make an amp board and carpet it if needed. This makes a nice install where you can route wires and mount everything nice an clean. I use a ground block too, where I run 8ga ground from the amp to a ground block, and then 4ga ground to a chassis ground. I've heard it's best to keep a short ground length too. Just remember to keep power routed as far away as possible from any signal wires (RCA).
If you're only running one amp, then the power distribution block is not necessary if the amp will accept 4ga wire. I know both my sub and 6 channel accept 4ga.

The 4 ga gets run from the amp to ground...if it won't fit in the amp use 8 ga it is thinner and should be fine (not sure of the wattage of your amp though)
agree with above no need for splitter if only going to be running a single amp...unless amp won't accept the 4ga wire.....then can use the spltter to go from the 4ga to the 8ga which should fit.

I have the junction block under the pass seat. I am running 8 guage from there over the hump to the amp under the drivers seat. I am using 8 guage (its just a little Xplod 250 amp) ground and had to trim the spaid to get that to fit. I am running the ground to the front right seat bolt. My RCA and 3 amp remote power wire (is that enough power to be a problem?)are run together under the drivers door jamb next to my cb coax. From the distribution block I have the 4 guage running to and under the pass door jamb to the fire wall. I just went and bought a firewall gromet so I guess I will be drilling because I can't find an exsisting hole. Really all I need to know now is where to bolt the fuse block to that will be out of the way and won't have to be moved every time I want to do something to my truck?
use the seat bolts that mount to the floor as your grounds. try and keep them within 2 feet or shorter of the grounding point and the amps. i have an 800 watt under the driver seat and ran the power wire through a plastic cover right next to the brake pedal on the firewall.
