I have a 04 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi with 59K and it has thrown this 0404 code twice in the last 2 days along with the check engine light. I looked up the code and it is EGR Circuit Range/Performance. Can someone tell me what this code is and is it a dealer fix or is there somthing I can do to fix it.

Most likely you will need a new EGR. If you have any warranty left use it.

 

Is the EGR valve covered under the 7-70 powertrain warranty because they seem to be real pickey about what they cover when I take it to the dealer.
Can anyone tell me what the price on a EGR is?

I would expect the EGR to be covered under the powertrain warranty. Not too sure on the price, but I wouldn't think it would take more than 3 hours labor at the absolute maximum.

 

I had the 0404 code in my 04 Ram too......It was the egr valve, mine wasnt covered by warranty (64000kms)....I ended up just changing it myself in about 20 mins...cost was $69 canadian.......took care of the 0404 problem.Good luck.

 

I don't have a copy of the warranty in front of me, but I can 99.99% guarantee you EGR is not covered under power train.

 

Thanks for the help I will order a EGR valve in the morning. Will also post the cost when I find out.

 

EGR valve = $49.00 and they are on back order. Dealer said it might be here in 4 to 5 weeks!! I cannot beleive this I have a 2004 truck that I cannot get a EGR valve for without waiting 5 weeks.

 

Dealer looked into it for me and said there is about 1000 on back order nation wide. Mine has been ordered for two weeks now. this happened to my 05 with 36k on it.

 

I have a spare EGR sitting on my shelf, replaced mine cause I had the same code and come to find out that was not the problem.
