So are you saying that the Sport has bigger calipers and so does the SLT depending on which wheels you choose?[sm=insomnia.gif] If that's the case, you're saying you get bigger calipers on the SLT if you choose 20's? Maybe it's just me, but that doesn't make much sense.
No thats not what I am saying. SLT's have an option for 20" rims thats it. Why don't you go to Dodge's web site and build a truuck and you will see what I am yalking about!!!
I am so confused, in post #4 above you said
brakes are bigger.

Ok sit down and try to understand. Sport package comes stock with 20" rims because there brakes ARE bigger. There is maybee a2 inchesbetween rim and caliper so there is no way a 17" would fit. SLT comes stock with 17" rims and have an option for 20" rims the brakes are the same size with either rim. It's just a accessories option.
Ummm...Every 1500 has the same size brakes. I'm not trying to be an ***, but the 'Sport' model is a trim package, and has nothing to do with the size of the brakes. I just called the Dodge dealer myself and asked.

I do not know everything, but I am pretty sure the sport package 1500 has the same size brakes as others. If you are in phoenix pm me and you can try my 17's to se if they fit.

Other than cheaper tires, anyone have any info on whether or not this helps wih acceleration and/or mileage due to weight(inertia etc.)? I was actually considering going to a smaller aftermarket wheel for multiple reasons. With that any info on some of the ligher, but still adequete strength rims for our trucks would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to hijack the thread...

Yes I have the coil over in the front. Stupid IFS I wish I would have spent the extra for the 2500 and got the solid front axle. But I was happy witht he deal I got and it definately serves the purpose, only problem upgrades are just recently coming out for it.

when i went from the 20's to 17' i actually lost acceleration and milage since i put 33's on it. But the ride was a HUGE improvemnt, it makes a world of difference to have that much more sidewall on the tire

OK you abviously are the Ram God and you know how my truck is set up.Since youare the all knowing tell me how can I put a 17" rim on my truck with only 2" of space with a 20" rim? There is noway! So untill you know my truck don't tell me I'm smoking crack.
I don't know if the other guy is the RAM GOD. If you know geometry you can figure it out. Yes a 20" wheel is 3" in diameter bigger than a 17" wheel, but itsradius is1 1/2" bigger. You follow me?So, if you have 2" of clearance you are only losing 1 1/2"from the center out. It will be close, but should clear.I checked all the parts houses and they all show the same breaks for the all 1500 models excluding 2500, 3500, and SRT10.
