Default Paint

Anyone else unhappy with their paint? If a shopping cart in the parking lot breaths by the truck there is a scratch. Just seems like cheap paint. Looks good on the lot but in a few months the paint is slightly faded with the spider web look scratches going all over the paint. How can I fix this, other than the obvious repaint? I have seen the wet sanding done, but is this the best method for bringing my paint back to life. Thank you for your help.

you could try using a 3 step wax system like the Meguiar's, where it has the cleaner, then the polish, and then the actual wax...i heard it works really good but i have yet to try it...still usin my bottle of Meguiar's Gold Class wax...but thats what i'm gonna buy next time

Does that remove the small spider web scratches, or will I need to use something like scratch dr. or scratch x?

Take my advice, invest in a porter cable random orbital (7336/7434) some pads, and compounds and polishes and you will be able to maintain your paint on every vehicle you own until you die. I do professional detailing in Michigan and can tell you that anything you buy over the counter is only going to make your car/truck look good for a month and then it will wear away. You need the heat and polishing power (3,000 oscillations per minute) that this machine can generate. It mimics your hand motion 3,000 times per minute at full speed, so you will acheive superior results in much shorter time. Read the guide to detailing in the detailing section it will explain to you everything you need to know about car care the right way. If you need product suggestions just pm me, but I'm telling you, the store bought stuff is crap compared to professional chemicals. I started detailing my own rides 5 years ago when i bought my first car and have since made it my life's work of making cars shine. I now own my own business and have tried every over the counter product you can buy and nothing compares to the professional stuff you can get from distributors or over the net. They will make your details go by quicker, and make the shine you create last at least 2-3 times longer.

I know what you mean. My truck is black, so i see all of the nicks and scratches.... You would think that Dodge, being a part of Mercedes Benz would use better paint on their trucks.... A pal of mine has a Mercedes Benz that's 7 years old, and the paint on the car is great.......They must paint those vehicles a dozen times before putting it on the road.

Yeah... it definatly pisses me off. Dodge makes such an effort on building a great truck and then they coat it with a thin layer of crap. Fords and GMC's don't fade and scratch out the way Dodges do. Now as for detailing... should I wet sand everything and then do all the orbital stuff or skip that step... using the orbital won't remove scratches, correct?

The paint was so bad on mine when I bought it they had to take it back in and get both passenger side doors re-shot. They weren't happy because when it was done I said it ain't right and they had to redo it again. Dam manager tried to convince me to let him give me $100.00 off any accessory instead of sending it back. What a joke, I told him look buddy everthing you got in here is jacked up in price and I could easily buy better quality for less than the price with a discount. Had to have them reshoot the rest of the truck to match the passenger doors, good thing I knew the body shop guys, they told Doge that they couldn't match the crappy paint from the factory so they'd have to shoot it all.
