cheap exhaust mod or not?
I just boughta 07 1500 hemi and wanted to hear it.I was going to buy a magnaflow cat back for 506.00. I got the brilliant idea to justchop off that massive mufflerand weld a straight pipe.Well i did and it was50 bucks. Its a nice rumble a little loud but not too loud.Myconcern is the back pressure. Will I loose gas mileage?am I hurting the new engine?Do I need to reprogram computer or reset it.
I wouldappreciate any feed back..

Yeah i chopped off the muffler on my 06 with mds as well and welded in an aero turbine muffler. However, I dumped the exhaust at the muffler so it dumps before the rear axle, exactly the sound I was searching for.
i have a cutout on my 03 and i can tell a difference when its opened or closed as far as passsing power on the highway. i get 12-13 mpg regardless (damn shoe is made of lead) but i havent notcied any worse or better with teh same amount of throttle. Id pull the pcm fuse and reset the pcm so your truck can learn from scratch but over time it will learn the new exhaust any way. there is a huge difference in torque off the line that i have notcied compared to when its closed and open. i lose a lot off the line when its open!
How does it sound when the MDS kicks in?
I took everything off my 07 Hemi from the muffler back (including the muffler). It sounds real nice until the MDS kicks in. I was wondering if I put straight pipe thru where the muffler was and put the tail section with the rear resonator back on if that would quiet the MDS sound a bit. Did you drive yours around before with the muffler removed prior to welding in the straight pipe?
Any thoughts?

i got an 06' HEMI TRX4 what i did for my cheap exhaust mod was go to my local muffler shop had them cut off from the muffler back and replace it with a universal Boral muffler and a turn down elbow before the rear axle i dont like the look of muffler tips so i dont perfer any i achieved the sound i wanted nice low rumble at low rpms and quiet when you want it to be but opens up when you step on it
yeah i did drive it around before i took it off. It does sound a little crappy when mds kicks in but if u want the hemi rumble your gunna have to sacrafice.I just use od off in the city andturn it on when on the highway.I really do think the mds is a complete waste and doesntreally save thatmuch onmilage.Im kinda pissed about that feature and I didnt know it was gunna kick in evey 5 seconds and then kickoff.I figured it would kick in on the highway when cruising for like 30 seconds or something.

Best twenty eight bucks I ever spent! Well, it might be a bit to early to say that since I just barely put it on about thirty minutes ago but it sounds great! I have an 08 Hemi 1500 QC and I just subbed in a three inch diameter section of pipe and then tore up the streets for a little while. I will post again when I get a chance to drive the truck around a little more.
