Default New 5.7L HEMI DODGE OWNER Performance HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!

Well first off want to say this site is pretty cool.. I just bought my first Dodge a 2006 Quad Cab 2500 HD 5.7 Hemi. After being a chevy guy for years i wanted to try something different and well i love it the ride height is great and love the sound of the Hemi. I have a few questions PLEASE for you guys//gals out there. I know i didnt buy the best truck for MPG-

1- any advice on what might help with a few MPG's
2- the truck has plently of power once the RPM's get up, but seems to have alot of hesitation when getting on it for example passing. DOES ANYONE have any hints or products they know of and have used that will clean the trottle reponse up a bit at lower RPM's??
3- So referring to question 2 would exhaust help with this to gain MORE TORQUE or would exhaust hurt it?
4- Do i need to reset the computer when adding aftermarket items and if so HOW DO I?

Thanks for the help and remeber this is a 5.7 Hemi in a 2500 QC HD

As for the MPG, don’t be a lead foot. Easy starts will add miles! Red

I have an '04 Quad Cab Hemi, and I added a Magnaflow catback and aK&N air intake kit and it seems to have really added some off the line pep, not to mention sound awesome. I haven't calculated the MPG, since I can't seem to not mash the gas pedal to hear the exhaust roar.

The hesitation is a result of Dodge's Torque managment. A computer tuner will help with that. I saw a MPG gain when I tuned mine.

I think the 2500 HD Hemi is not a MDS engine so you will use more fuel then the MDS folks. But as far as fuel saving tips. Cactus nailed it. This engine will sip or guzzle gas depending on your foot. So, after the break in "They all guzzle for the first few thousand miles" drive normal and you will not have that bad of milage for this size of a truck.

I don't think I have ever seen any proof of intakes or exhaust adding fuel mileage and most people like the sound of it and step on the gas to hear it more offen. But most claim a 1-2mpg gain.

If you wish to reset the computers adjusted settings that it learns while you drive just disconnect the battery and it will clear it. I am sure 5 minutes is plenty.

Yeah, the comp helps. it added 40 hp and about 1-2 mpg in my friends 05 hemi.

Only the Mega Cabs don't have MDS due the their body weight. So I'm taking it as though the QC 2500 will have it...

whys that? in the 07 HEMI's you cant hear the difference in the switch from 4 to 8 or 8 to 4. thats why im getting exhaust on mine. the dealer (which is a dealer i would highly recommend to anybody wnating a dodge, mazda, or pontiac b/c of their expertise in cars) told me how they fixed that with the 07 from the 06.

I have the O5 version of your truck. If your budget is prevents you from buying everything at once, the first purchase should be the Superchips Flashpaq. It is just cool. If you are concerned with the MPG, more so the cost per mile, you can switch from 87 Octane Performance to 91 Octane Performance without screwing your computer, as well as a towing setting... which requires 91 Octane. From there you can manipulate the shift points (they call it Wide Open Throttle, but according to the guys at SC it is half to WOT) and that will get some of that hesitation out of the truck. Then go with a reliable CAI such as K&N (there is a whole ton of info about intakes and exhausts on this site, just do a search) then the exhaust. I put the Gibson SuperTruck Exhaust on my truck and it is crazy loud, with some gains in performance. And you were right, if you were looking at fuel economy, you're out of luck. You bought a truck and there isn't too much you are going to do to make it better. I heard of installing a vacuume gauge in you truck, which doesn't improve your MPG itself, rather it teaches you better driving habits by trying to keep a negative vacuume. If money isn't an issue, go with a turbo system like STS, for both the improvments in MPG and performance.
