our MP's have CNG trucks (but they are only the V6 ford f150s). ive heard you cant enough the same power with CNG as you can with other gases. but its inherit energy AND octane is much higher..

sorry, i was pretty drunk when i tried typing. i had heard that you cant get enough power (for a hemi) or even the same power out of a 4.7 with CNG. from what i understand since the octane rating is so much higher the engine runs hotter and therefore is harder to make the same power. Im not an auto mechanic im a AP so the principle makes sense to me, but someone with real world knowledge might be able to help me understand.
What Roush is doing with propane on the 5.4 V8 Ford F150:

Hmmmmmmm, I've been running LPG now for over 23 months and 22,000 miles.
I can tell you this, I can't tell ANY difference when running on LPG compared to petrol except in my pocket. Oh and the Hemi is smoother and ticks over a lot better.
Here in the UK LPG is under half the cost of petrol and makes my Hemi cost effective!
I think the LPG article posted on here Silver Eagleare mine.

This would be a worthwhile investment, and after reading this entire post, and some other resources around the net, it has got me thinking. 1 the cost effectiveness. Being that I drive around 40,000 miles a year, I could break even on the investment in about a year. After some local research I see that I have someone in town that fills propane tanks (either at your home, or you can come to him) right now at the end of October with road tax he's charging $1.43 a gallon, or he'll come fill it at your home or business for $1.52 a gallon (and just send you a bill at the end of the month). According to him, he's got 5vehicles that he fillsin my town population 55,000 that run off of propane now.
40,000 miles averaging 13 MPG (what I'm getting right now) x $2.75 a gallon = $8461.54
40,000 miles averaging 11.5 MPG (Estimated LPG mileage) x $1.50 (On average) = $5217.39
That's $3244.12 in savings on the first 40,000
2) Propane burns cleaner, is actually better for your engine, and better for the enviroment. Think about it, they run propane powered machines indoors everywhere...
The only downside, this would have to void any warranty on your engine (Even though it's been proven that propane is much better on engine wear). I would think (I have the unlimited powertrain warranty) that the transmission and other drive train components would still be covered as you only altered the engine, but there's probably some loop hole there that could get chrysler out of it.
I'm still seriously considering it. And after some more research on how easy it might be to refill on road trips, this may be something to look in to. Even if I have to switch to regular gas during long road trips, this would still be beneficial for my around town driving, or in state driving that I could get to and from on a single tank(and I do a lot of that). I love this site, but man, I would have never thought to do this to my baby without it... lol
