2007 Ram vibration
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 Quad cab w/Hemi. It has the 20in wheels.
Between 40-60mph there is a slight vibration around 1700-1800 rpms. If you gas it a little it smooth's out, if you turn off the overdrive it goes away also. It is annoying because when you are attempting to maintain a cruising speed, you are at those rpms, so it is vibrating quite a bit of the time. I know it rides a little rough because of the big tires, but this is something different.
The service department said they were aware of this condition, and said it was normal.
anyone else out there having this problem? is it really normal?

Yeah I'd bet it's the mds as well. both giving it a little gas and turning off OD would effectively activate all 8 cylinders instead of the 4 it runs on when MDS is active. 40-60 mph is also roughly the speed range that mds operates.

I wish that was the case with mine.... Mine cuts on whenever I let off the gas. 20mph 40 mph 60 mph it doesnt matter!
Actually I think the real range is somewhere from 25-65 (have heard some people claim they can get it to turn on at 75, but that is not common). Probably the reason manipulators isn't noticing it until 40 is because most traffic until about 40 mph is stop and go, where mds wouldn't really have a chance to kick in. I can say though that I never notice mds kicking in, only the rpm needle dropping a bit.
There have been many similar posts about vibration in those speed ranges on this and other boards.
It does not sound like MDS, since during acceleration MDS is not used.
It sounds like Dodge on the 2006 and 2007 Rams has a problem they don't have a TSB fix for yet.
Usually some smart tech at a Dealership will find the fix before DC does, and pass it on up the line.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Just so you know, this is not a bad vibration like some have complained of. Its not much worse than the roughness coming off the 20in tires, many people might just think its just the tires.
When I took it in, the first thing I did was ask the mechanic (he seemed quite knowledgeable) if it was possible to feel the cylinder deactivation, and he confidently said no.
We went for a test drive, and he felt it a little, and said it was a normal condition having to do with it being in overdrive a little early to save fuel, and the transmission having topull such a heavy truck etc.
I am back to thinking it could be the MDS now after reading these replies. If so, do they all do this, or does mine have a problem?

Fellow DF'ers, I just want to add my input. I've dealt with Chrysler and there dealerships with this vibration issue for some time now. My vibration is slight, and at the 24 - 60+ MPH. I ow notice it is getting slightly worse. The truck only has 4900 miles. All and wheels have been road balanced to wel within the 40 lb.limit. I had a lengthly discussion with the service director of my dealer and he, "read real good," said there is nothing more they nor Chrysler will doto find the cause. Maybe its a test to see if I by it. Maybe it's a stall until, as one here has said, until some smart tech. finds the cure and passes it on. Any how, we'll see, won't we? It is amazing that these dealer techs and such, don't have the authority to go to the next step in the process of elimination to eliminate these problems. I know that there are other things that can cause this type of vibration. They are: bent axles, defective rear axle bearings, diferential gears and bearings. But mine have not been checked by the dealer's "factory trained technicians." I notice one reply where the statement was made that they, DC, know of the problem but have no fix yet. If they investigate completely, they'll find the cause.
Read the post about the driveshaft that failed. Now that is a problem.
As for MDS causing it, I find that it is not contributing to the vibration.
I was told by the district rep who worked on my trk, 2 times, "I think it's the torque converter lockup drone." If it is, why don'tyoufix it, I asked.
I talked with a gentleman from DC customer support center today.
He is familiar with my problem, (3 letters sent), and he is going to make some calls to the dealer anddistrict offices in this, so. CA, area to see if he can get something else done to my truck. I truely believe this problem can be eliminated only if someone gets off their duff and authorize it.
I'll keep you all posted.
