Default Hellas Behind My Grill

Well I finally installed the Hella 500FF lights that I got for Christmas. A big thank you to DirtyDog for his write up on how to install these lights and thanks to 08RamMan and xfeejayx for their feedback on relay and switch placement. This probably isn’t the easiest thing I have done to my truck but it was a pretty simple install.

Where I put my switch:

I bought a switch at Advance Auto to use instead of the one they included in the kit. I was hoping for one with a blue led, but the green looks fine. Here are a couple of shots of the original switch. It looked to me like the entire switch would light up and I thought that would look like crap.

Next up...some OEM fog lights!

Thanks guys.

The way I hooked mine up was:

Black wire from relay to black wire on lights.
Blue wire from relay to ground. I used the same ground that the negative battery terminal connects to.
Red wire from relay to bolt at the fuse box where there were already a couple of other connections. There was a fuse inline on the red wire.
Yellow wire from relay to the load (middle) terminal on the switch.

Then the green wire I hooked up to the power terminal on the switch and connected that to the power wire for the cigarette lighter. There was a fuse inline on the green wire.

Blue wire to ground on the switch. This was just attached to part of the dash support.

The blue wires on the lights I grounded with self tapping screws right by the mounting locations.

As far where I put the relay, I mounted it on the side of the battery tray toward the firewall. And I ran all the wires behind or underneath stuff as much as I could to keep it hidden. If you want to see pictures of something else let me know and I will take some for you.
