I have a question for guys with a 4-6" lift and 35's, has anyone gone from stock 3.55 gears to a 3.73, 3.92 or 4.10? My truck already has power issues at 60mph with stock gears so i'm thinking with a lift and 2" bigger tires i should do a gear swap in attempt to keep the engine in 4 CYL more often, anybody try/have luck with this? Any advide appreciated, thanks.

Default new 2012 5.7

1st tank full, 90% or more city, only one 20 mile each way trip. 15.2 M.P.G. I think thats reasonable, it SHOULD get better. 2nd tank hauling 4000 lb boat, 8.2 m.p.g. 60-65 m.p.h. not real happy with that. shifted drive to O.D. and back about 30 times, wether in tow mode, manual mode or auto mode. Dealer gonna check it out thurs.

I would ignore the first tank. Mine was 12 something, but quickly went into the high teens. The 5.7 seems to take a little longer to break in than some other engines.

Good luck with your new ride.

I get 11mpg pulling my 7000 travel trailer which has a lot more wind resistance than a boat. Pulling my boat (about 3000lbs) I am getting closer to 16mpg. I am thinking yours will get better but I have 3.92 gearing so the engine doesn't have to work as hard under load.

2012 longhorn. 5.7, cool air ox. Not ure how much it helps mpg but sounds bad when in throttle nd seems to have more power, must help some mpg. I believe Ome of you talking about 21-22 mpg are driving 60 -65 m.p.h. Or only looking at computer mpg when ou let off or get behind big truck for a min of two.
1000 miles
Cool air box
Ran to Georgia last weekend, most of way up I ran 65-70, cruise was ok with 18 or so. This is the 3/4 tank average.
Running home after about 20 miles or so I got bored with this 65 crap, everyone passing, rising my butt, blocking me in, that's more dangerous than running 85, soo it was 85 and occasional 90 most of the way home. Tank average 175-18. Barely made a differances! Was very happy! Never in close to 100,000 miles did I see over 15.5 to 16 with the 5.4 fords or over 14.5 tank average with 08 super duty 6.4 Diesel. It's t bad, the pa has ruined the diesels. If you bypass the egr and eliminate the particular filter and cv in exhaust the 6.4 produces 1000 lbs plus torque and 21+mpg, IF you stay out of jail.

I live in Germany as a serving British Soldier so my car had to be changed to European standards and according to my dealer the truck needed a engine management overhaul among other things.

First attempt, I was on fumes how I didn't run out of fuel I don't know, I then filled up with 100 Ltrs (it still wasn't completely full!) I thought ok let reset and drive until the fuel light comes on and call that 90 ltrs of fuel used.

I made a long trip to Geilenkirchen from Bielefeld which is a 300 mile + round trip I stuck to 65 mph, I had also been very careful around town driving 3 miles to work etc.

I calculated a staggering 23.9 MPG!!! Yes I drove like a fanny I would also attribute this to the grade of fuel here in Germany, I had put 98 Octane fuel in, I know I'll have people doubting my calculations but trust me they are spot on.

On the first attempt I have
Is that to a US Gallon or an Imperial Gallon? US Gallon is smaller. Also 98 Octane (Research) in Germany is roughly the same as 92-93 Octane (Research + Motor / 2) in the USA.

Your fuel mileage out of the 5.7L 4x2 doesnt surprise me as my lifetime average is 19.5 mpg in a Crew Cab 4x4 4.7L. I have gotten 21 mpg on the highway several times in the summer without the benefit of cylinder deactivation. +1 mpg for 5.7L with cylinder deactivation, + 1 mpg for 4x2 and your at 23 mpg.

For those that are skeptical my last 8 months fuel use and miles are posted on Fuelly.com under Dodge Ram 1500 2010 - Casper. Average over those 8 months including winter was 19.4 mpg.

My personal opinion is that when driven at moderate highway speeds the 5.7L Hemi does better and around town the 4.7L OHC does better but then thats just my opinion.
