Which to buy? Magnaflow muffler or Mufflex exhaust.

Just got back from the local muffler shop where they put on the VR series V-Flow muffler on for $140. The guy told me its the exact same unit as the flowmaster 40 and side by side to me they looked the same except for the obvious flowmaster stamp. It sounds great!!!

had leaks, tightened clamps down so much they eventually broke,a few other minor issues, worked great at first, done alot of exhaust work over the years and never had one that needed to be constantly tightened like this one.now its welded and no more problems.should of just bought the muffler and let the muffler shop install it

Mufflex 18 here, no issues in 30,000 miles. Had it installed by a shop with tack welds. Sounds great, I get many complements on it. I think they charged me $70 to install.

stonewhite,
in your opinion how does the 18 sound compared to stock. I am leaning to just getting an 18" magnaflow muffler instead of the mufflex maybe even a 14".

I went with the 18 because I didn't want to wake the whole neighborhood when I left early for work. IMHO it has a great sound and gets everyone's attention when you jump on it. No drone at highway speeds, quiet when you want it to be and loud when you want it to be. Perfect.... IMHO

From what I've read here and on ramforumz.com, most of these Mufflex problems seem to be consentrated around the DOD18M. I wonder if it's because the pipes that connect the muffler are smaller and less flexable when driving as opposed to the longer pipes found in the DOD14M. The muffler itself just won't flex so it's up to the pipes. I'd assume the OEM one wouldn't leak because...well...it's OEM and perfectly installed on the vehicle before they drop the bed or cab on the frame.

Default Mufflex DOD18

Just installed the Mufflex DOD18 last week. Only took about 30 minutes to install (using a lift), went together easy, and it sounds great. Called Mufflex directly to order, was a little cheaper on shipping compared to Ebay. Would recommend it to anyone!

In a year or so when it rust off, I would suggest a Magnaflow like the rest. It flows much better than a chambered muffler and is stainless with a lifetime warranty.
