I've tried a few different things, but haven't came up with anything I'm hot on long term. I have both a road & a mountain bike (non-29er) and I've done everything from the motorcycle straps to the hitch carrier. I had the hitch carrier from my last vehicle, a Nissan Xterra. While it works great for the truck and is secure (a big factor) as someone mentioned it looks odd hanging off the back with the bed empty. The straps work for quick trips and it quicker than getting the carrier out, but since it has no security, I hate using them too much. I've also just laid the bike down (derailers up of course :P ) in the bed when I had the Leer cover. At that time that was the only option since taking that Leer off was a PITA. Now that the Leer is thankfully gone, I've been thinking of the 2x4 or something similar to at least give me a little more security than the straps. At some point I'm going to get a BakFlip cover and was thinking about mounting fork mounts to the back of the second section. That way when you fold the cover back twice, the fork mounts would be right there sticking up and ready for the bike. That idea also seems a little more secure than just a 2x4 in the bed.

The 2009 Dodge Ram Accessories catalogue shows a bike mount system that is mounted on the "Sport Utility Rails" - sold separately.

Does anyone know what the part number is for the Sport Utility Rails that you'd need to go with a RamBox set-up?

All the pictures I've seen are on trucks without the RamBox.

Thanks -

either over the tailgate as mentioned above or get a rack that goes into the trailer hitch. over the tailgate is the cheapest route.

The more "aerodynamic" route is to mount forks mounts directly to the floor. Secure in that you don't have to worry about some 2x4 moving around but still need to lock your bike into the bed if you leave it out. Keeps two bikes out of the wind going down the road. You can also fit a few more bikes by mounting the same type of fork mount to the inner lip of the bedrail. Mount each bike facing out the sides rotating in opposite directions. Simple, cheap and effective.
