Possible new 11' hemi 1500 owner - what's real world MPG?
3.55 rear end. It is a good day if I see 20 on the highway and 16 average. I usually drive the Civic or else I'd go broke.
And I drive like a 61 year old man. OOH! I am a 61 year old man.
If you really care about mileage run away as fast as you can.

2011 HEMI 4x4 CC w/ 2" leveling kit and stock tires (3:55 rear end). I drive it like I drive all my vehicles ... horse it occasionally and typically 5 over the speed limit. Long-hand calculations in town have been high 15's to 16's and as high as 20 on a 3 hour road trip.
So for every 4mpg, it's a $860 difference at 15k a year?
Exactly, and nor should it be.
When you look for a vehicle, if gas mileage is a consideration, which it is for some, and not for others.
You should never say, "can I afford to drive a 16mpg vehicle, or do I need a 20mpg vehicle?" There is very little difference at the end of the day.
You should be asking, "can I afford a vehicle that averages 15-20mpg, or do I need to look for something in 30mpg+ range?"
Then go from there.

I've noticed a slight increase in MPG from when I first took delivery (~13.2) to ~15.4 now. Granted, I've done a little more highway driving since then but I think that may have helped to "break-in" the Ram. The current tank that I've been driving with strictly around town and back and forth to work (~8 mi one way) is what I'm showing the 15.4.
As far as trucks and gas mileage, I agree. Don't buy a truck if you are worried about gas mileage.
My biggest pet peeve are the people who don't like trucks because "they drive like a truck".
