I like synthetic, for it's long term change capability - If I can't get it changed right on time, I know it will go the distance. It's also more consistent in grade, which makes cold starts better on the engine. Along with, the same when hot.

In synthetics, all the long chain molecules are basically the same size - means more consistent lubrication throughout the oil's life.

if you are going to change it sooner than the mfr recommends, any oil will do - I'm shooting for max mfr recommendation on mileage/time change.

I also recommend you use something easily obtained, like Mobil 1, Pennzoil Platinum, or any other name brand ---- it really frosts me if I can't find a quart of oil to add that's the same stuff.

Dodge recomends regular oil during break in (at least the dealer here did) to seat the rings etc. before switching to synthetic which in itself says alot for the difference between the 2 oils, also synthetic works better in high heat and extreme cold.......I can't personally comment on the heat side of things but I fly to work in northern Alberta Canada where it reaches into the -40's in the winter and at that temp. regular oil turns into molasses where synthetic stays more "fluid" at work we put the 2 different oils in paper coffee cups and put them in a snow bank overnight, the regular oil turned into almost like a grease, and the synthetic while it did thicken up, it did pour out much more easily, and that makes the difference of the vehicle starting or not, and a major difference in engine damage.........my opinion is synthetic is a superior oil under any conditions its up to you if you want to spend the extra money on it

For my hemi powered vehicles, i only use Valvoline 5w20 SynPower = 300,000 mile guarantee...!!!!!!
https://valvoline.promo.eprize.com/e...vered_products

Three previous NEW vehicles i owned, (all hemi dodge`s) i use to use Mobil1, and they began to show signs of smoke, (since 1st oil change) out the tail pipes very soon after using mobil1. Since switching back to valvoline, i`ve never seen smoke out the tail pipes during any start up`s again. Call it what you will, but i`ll stick to valvoline until i see different. I always run the factory oil filters too, just makes sense if it came with it, its just smart to keep running it with the factory oil filter.

Default oil

as many miles I drive a month I stick with what the dealer puts in . The oil change is 16.48. I check my oil and around 3,000 miles on it , it looks very clean . I go usually around 4-5,000 in between oil changes . My is 09 and just turned 110,000 on the clock

I run synthetic. I usually buy whats on sale, Mobil1, Quaker State. As long as its a brand name, not the generic store brand. Getting a synthetic oil change at the dealership cost somewhere around $200. What I do is buy the oil/filter and bring it to the dealership and they charge usually $40. I can easily do it myself but $40 is hardly worth the mess to me. The main reason I run synthetic is because my oil temps run about 230-240F while pulling my camper (9200lb), I think conventional oil would break down pretty quick at those sustained temperatures. As for the longer change intervals, I still only get 5-6000kms before the indicators tells me to change. Also, the service guys at the Dodge place here don't like going over that.

I too have the dealer change mine every 3K for under $20 myself. Never had an oil issue or any engine issue in 49K so far. No need for synthetic oil if you change your oil regularly or it would say so in the owners manual. Not saying it's bad, just an unneeded expense unless you want to go way past the recommended mileage.
Just a note, 5w20 AMSOIL after about 8K miles gets way to thick for a MDS engine. Proven fact, so I wouldn't use it too long between changes!!

Where is this proven fact at? Ive been using amsoil for all my bikes, sleds and trucks for years without any problems. Sold my last truck after doin 3 changed while i had it and oil looked fine. Got anything to show this proven fact? Got a good friend who is a amsoil dealer and he has all kinds of info showing how good this oil is.

I will have to find the write up on it. It is fine up to between 8K and 10K where it thickens. I was surprised to read about this myself. I would think just the opposite and it would thin out over time. Something to do with the additives in it. I would never go that long on any oil, but that's just me.
