Default RAM Express vs. 4.7 HO dakota

hey guys, i am considering a new ram express vs. a 2x4 ex cab 4.7 dakota. strickly from a 0-60 1/4 mile stand point, who has the win here?
I can get a smokin deal on either, i would love to have the extended cab, but the point of this truck is a starting point for a "fast" street truck..

thanks for the help.

If youre looking for huge performance numbers, I'd avoid the 4.7 as it has little aftermarket support, unlike the HEMI.

Welcome to DF. Please read this before you do anything else.

BTW, not trying to be a jerk, but a 2WD is a 4x2. A 2x4 is a piece of wood.

I will move this to the 4th gen Ram general discussion section. If you are talking model years before 2009, let me know via private message and I will move it to the 3rd gen section.

Ram hands down. I can't really speak for the 4.7l HO specifically but I owned a 3rd Gen Dakota (2006) and I can tell you that the Ram has a lot more power and torque overall. Not sure of the numbers on the Dakota but with the Ram you are looking at 390hp and 407lb/ft of torque stock. Not to mention the fact that the interior of the 3rd Gen Dakotas is the old cheap plastic interiors that Chrysler was infamous for before Fiat took the reigns. I bought my 2011 Ram back in June and I wouldn't dream of getting another Dakota unless I was looking for a second vehicle. I will also point out that the Rams get better fuel economy. On my trip from Iowa to Colorado and back I was able to get as high as 21.6mpg on average and never saw anything below 18mpg.

I also agree with MoparMan about the aftermarket. The aftermarket for the Dakota is almost non-existant compared to the Ram. I couldn't find anything for my Dakota and I am pretty sure the aftermarket for the 4th Gen Rams alone is bigger than the aftermarket for the 3rd Gen Dakotas overall.

Get a Lightning. If you must, go for the express. Nice looking truck and lots of potential.

mind if we see some pics of your personal ride? what is your mod list? again, pics please. got any personal dyno sheets or time slips?

feel free to click on the link in my sig for all my mods, projects and gallery pics

lightning v/s standard 3 ton 1500 with stock 392 gears - sure the lightning would get it as they arent even in the same class of tuck

BUT, lightning versus SRT10 - the lightning would be reading the SRT10s plates. ive seen it many times at the tracks when VTCoA does get together in PCB and guys with trucks like lightnings show up feeling all big and frisky and walk away with thier shoulders slumped and wondering what wet wrong

I wasnt comparing the lightning and express. He said he wanted a fast street truck, and the lightning is just that. I'll work on getting pictures. I'm on lightning rodder.com and dont even have pictures up there either. Anyway my truck is a 2002 lightning #1021, 2/4 drop, 20" '02 chrome replicas, MHP shortblock, stiegmier stage 4 ported eaton, 6lb lower pully, 2.75 upper, lfp single blade tb, lfp valve body, dual electric fans, egr delete, diablo mafia, volant cai, autometer wideband, and flomaster exhaust. Dyno tuned 446whp/480tq. Have yet to be to the track as I have only had the truck about 6 months. But looking forward to running into some srt trucks when i go, except i'll be reading their front plates in my rearview mirror.
