^I agree. These new half tons, while still very capable, are basically setup more for joe blow that hauls his golf cart a couple times a year

I asked both to speak to their superior and they stated this was not a case that would go higher than them. Finally the third time I spoke with a guy name Matt and he said it definitely should go to his superior as he found my record of calling in. They took it to the case manager. The case manager had me get an estimate of work to be done. The entire side of the bed needed to be replaced. It was a $3k estimate. The body shop said they've had this problem with Rams and Grand Cherokee. They tried to just blast and paint but it came right back. I knew this as I deal with steel coatings in my profession and once you have pack rust you can't just blast. The case manager said sorry I waited too long. I told them they told me to wait until it progressed. It told me they are putting a lot of money out on these trucks to fix things.
I'm also sorry you had a bad experience with your dealer. The service dept. where I bought my Dodge is in my opinion a bunch of liars and crooks. I even called the Gen. Manager and he wouldn't return my calls. Dodge even suggested I go to another dealer with a small problem I was having. I now have 35,000 on my 2012 ram 1500, 5.7 with coli springs and I might add sway bar in the rear. Owned fords all my life, this Ram is by far a better built, better hauling, more comfortable, most powerful and surprising to me the best MPG of any v-8 truck I have owned in my life. And trust me, at 65 yrs young, I've owned a couple!!! LOL. Yes, you did wait too long, you should know the word of one service person boob is NOT the final word. If my truck was rusting, especially with the expertise you claim to have in the field, I would NEVER in my wildest dreams accept the word of some local clown at the local dealership that may only have 2 months experience there, or some girl at Dodge. I assume you mean DODGE and not just the local dealer. When I complained at my local dealership a new guy in the service dept chimed in with the service Mgr, whom himself had only been there a couple months. Funny thing, I knew he worked for yrs at a tire dealership in town so what did he know about Dodge? Another amazing thing, the General manager at this dealership is also the GM at the local chevrolet dealer, who tried to screw me on a new truck in 08. Yes, sorry buddy you waited too long.
My son-in-law is strictly a chevy guy, ownes 3500 dually. Drove my Ram hauling my 10,000 boat with those terrible coil springs, made for the sunday go to church crowd and said it hauled and handled the load better than any half ton truck he ever drove. I think I'll go over on the ford forum and troll there about the terrible overated eco-boost. Oh, i bought a new half ton ford a month ago, the Dodge suspension is far more stable than the ford.

What amazes me even more are people I see with 3500 diesel dually's pulling a 28 ' 5th wheel or a lawn service trailer with 2 lawn mowers in it.
