I'm gonna do it.. Hemi 5.9 swap
Take lots of pictures and let us know when you wind up scrapping out the truck. Aside from the obvious technical challenges it would be interesting to know if you would be able to keep your truck registered in whatever state you live in.
Well guys, the OP didn't say he has an 09 1500...maybe he has a 2500 that is a 10 and thinks it's an 09, or just means 09+ body style...or simply has an 09 2500 and means he likes that style which inturn means 06-09 in the 2500...no matter which way, he COULD mean he has a 2500, as he did not specify in the post or in a signature or anything that he has a 1500. While yes, it'd be MUCH easier to start with a truck with the 6.7L Cummins to swap for the 5.9 Cumming...though IMHO that's be about the same as Hemi to 360 Mag. But fuel tank, lines, prolly entire wiring harness is TOTALLY different between a gasoline and diesel motor
Ahh, ok, I didn't even think to look at other posts to see if he was full of it or not...I usually do get a bit snoop-ie when I see odd ball threads like this...guess it's just been a long day and I didn't think far enough ahead...And I wasn't saying I actually think that, just that it COULD be what was meant...not likely, but COULD...but obviously not due to some other posts as you say...anyway, enough rambling
Here's a link to his other goofy a$$ thread about upgrading a perfectly fine 545RFE.

Instead of making fun of the guy an beatin up on him for what he`s askin for, why dont you teach or tell him why he should stay with the 545rfe transmission if you know so much about them. I would think he would be able to learn something by it instead of you guys just makin fun of him. Some people come in here not knowing much, so you should try an help him instead. I thought thats why we were here... to help each other.

It's a neat project idea, but yea it will take so much more work than just putting a bigger hemi in there.
If you get the motor in (fab engine mounts, completely re-arrange the engine bay) there's still the 48/47RFE? transmission to get in there, and then you're probably a good 300 lbs heavier up front. 485lbs for the hemi vs 750lbs for the 5.9 cummins, and the heavier trans.
Then there's updating the fuel system to diesel type parts, which I don't know where the differences are there. If you plan to retain the comforts of a stock style truck, the computer system from a truck with the 5.9 will have to be retrofitted to the 09, and that means wiring harnesses from headlight to tail light and everything in-between, not to mention rewiring the dash or somehow transplanting the entire aft-firewall electronics to the 09..
and if you live in California, you're going to have to be tricky to get around all the laws they have against something like this...
good luck.
