Watsup with Alberta cops
No I'm just here for the summer working like everybody else in this country seems like. My truck is mostly parked atvthe campground anyways so I'm not even gonna bother with any of it. I'll just keep paying the fines until I'm done here anyways. I got better things to do than uncustom my whole truck for some officer having a bad day or hating on my truck. Right after I got pulled over I counted at least 5 other trucks with the same taillights. It's gonna be cheaper to pay the fine for the tint then removing it and getting it done again.. Like I said I'm just gonna do my research and protect my ***. When I told him about the lights being dot approved and that I would fight that one out (after he gave me the notice) his face was red and I could tell that he was wrong but wouldn't admit it. Life goes on.
Lu I feel your anger towards cops sometimes I wish I was in Grand theft auto video game and unleash the fury. I'm just not that dumb, but some people still do things like that like on cops tv show hahaha.

I talked with one of my buddies, whos best friends with a "younger" RCMP. He said they are totally legal, basically he began to say if you can buy it in Alberta they are legal. So if your around an aftermarket headlight dealer, I would check in with them to see if they sell your taillight. The dealers here in Alberta at least cannot sell anything off the shelf that would be illegal on the roads. This does not stop them from ordering in for you from the states or overseas, but if they have it on the shelf its legal.
I also asked him about the switchbacks and the colors lighting output etc: The brake lights have to be RED, reverse has to be WHITE, and turn has to be AMBER. Which of course we all know. They don't specify anything about switchbacks being illegal themselves, however it does state that you cannot have any constant light out of your taillight that is not red. Or white if you are in reverse. So basically it does not say switchbacks are illegal, but under the circumstances switchbacks become illegal just by how it emits the colors. As far as light output goes it has to be within a certain lumin level, that is supposed to be tested in the dark, light, and fog.
I am not convinced that you need CSA certification on taillights. Alberta transportation releases a list of rules and regulations for the road. Its the D.O.T and police that make sure those laws are followed. You don't see the CSA being involved in tracking down aftermarket parts, and the fact that if they are legal or not. In fact anything that you buy overseas for your vehicle will NOT be CSA certified. I know many guys who are rebuilding cars that will use cheap Chinese parts for some of the rebuild, nothing is CSA certified. NOW having said that, if your running a company vehicle, that is licensed as a fleet vehicle. Thats where CSA gets involved. Everything on that vehicle must be certified, thats just the laws of the working sector. Every tool you use, and every part you install must be certified. We found that out when we has some roof racks installed on our company trucks. They we cheap ones, and not CSA certified. When it came around for the annual truck inspection they called us on that. So I can see it in that case, but under personal vehicles I think its bogus. I could be wrong, but as I see it, so long as you MEET or EXCEED the listed specification on what part you are installing. Your are meeting the DOT standard which is run by Alberta transportation.
Also I have to agree with everyone else here LU, don't **** a cop off or your going to get nailed. At least around here, they look for that, in fact they HOPE for that. They can now get you for harassment, disobeying a police officer you name it. Its not worth it to yell at a cop, you will find yourself in deep crap. You want to get back at him? You do it in court. He has to show up, or all the tickets/charges are dropped. If he knows he screwed up and you say your taking him to court, sometimes he will step away. Other times I have seen it where they are made a fool of in court for trying to get you with stupid reasons.
A buddy of mine was pulled over on our highway 2 (the main highway) for doing 7kms over the speed limit. He just about lost it on the cop, but kept his cool. He went to talk with the first appearance officer on the day the ticket was due, apparently the officer just about lost it. He ripped the ticket up and my buddy was told to bugger off. So sometimes it does not even escalate to court, sometimes all you have to do is speak to a first appearance officer.
lol...i hear ya dude, i just dont respect cops when they have an attitude, or even when they`re fresh out of the academy and think they`re gonna just bust peoples nuts just because they have a badge and a gun. Like i said, respect me, i`ll respect you...simple math. These young guns need to know where their paychecks come from....people like you an me, THE TAX PAYER...! Their job is to protect and serve, NOT harass everybody on the road for stupid ****.
So you are the guys taking work away from us Albertans? Haha, no theres lots of it around here haha...Where you working at?

Yeah it's us stealing all the work from you guys lol. If it wasn't for this province I don't know what the country would do. But i'm sure if you wanted to work in the oil patch you could find work easily. I'm in whitecourt right now most likely for the summer. Very nice lil town and i love it so far, except for mister pissy officer lol.
I have no doubt that they are totally legal, actually the other day i looked on the lights itself and saw the DOT on them, wish i would of thought of it when the cop was there i would of showed him, but again he would of had an excuse. They are from GoRecon and I know they state all their stuff is legal, but the officers argument was that they have to be visible from back to the sides. Which i counter argued that they do have reflectors from back to sides, plus when the lights are on they have led's on the back and sides, so whatever. He thought it was light covers, just shows how clueless he was.
As far as the CSA goes i agree with you i'm not sure they're involved in the automotive parts. Maybe things like daytime driving lights but not aftermarket parts, i'm pretty sure thats where the DOT comes into play, but i'm no lawyer so.
The swithcback well i don't know about those, i'm not sure if there's a law that states the parking lights must be amber at all times, i'm pretty sure some vehicles come stock with no amber parking lights, they do flash amber. Also those are much brighter than a standard halogen bulb so there again i don't know.

Also to add on this is the oil field industry itself, it adds A LOT of pressure on this province. Not saying that your a part of it, but I can tell whenever someone works in the field. They have all that money, and they just go out and purchase top of the line parts and throw it on there. This is not mainly the problem I have, its those guys who do this and show it off to EVERYONE and stick it in everyone's faces. Its just rude, and I am sure the cops don't like it either.
Now I am not saying that this is you Interpun haha, but sometimes all you need is to just look like a guy who works in the oilfield and thats how they nail you. The stereotypical mindset of the oilfield is money, and everyone has lots of it. With the end of the month coming, they need to fill their quota, and its hard to do it with the DOT around. They get everyone they can.
At least thats my excuses for him haha :P
And yes I did work up about 3 hours north of mcmurray. The type of work I was in I just did not enjoy it. I am an electrician, and I went up there thinking hard work=Big money=New house in the fall. Boy was I wrong. Everything is so safety orientated there that production is all the way down the ladder. Some days we were sitting all day for 10.5 hours strait not doing anything. AND when were were it was just ty-rapping cables to tray for 10.5 hours haha. Not my kind of work, easy money yes, social life no, and mind numbing ABSOLUTELY! So I came back here where I can think for myself haha
