Watsup with Alberta cops
Thats half your problem right there. If you head down more south into Calgary they become a little more lenient. Edmonton gets worse, but as soon as you hit the white court, grand prairie area that's where they start to get nasty. Fort Mcmurray MUCH worse. Mainly because they are loosing their jurisdiction up there. We won't see many D.O.Ts here in the southern side of the province, and when they are they are only around weigh stations. So the cops have more authority, yes there are still those A-Holes, but they seem to just get you on more valid reasons. However up that way the DOT has a much higher reign. Because their main focus is the commercial vehicles they stay up there. I guess you could say there are more commercial vehicles (or Fleet) then there is commercial.
Also to add on this is the oil field industry itself, it adds A LOT of pressure on this province. Not saying that your a part of it, but I can tell whenever someone works in the field. They have all that money, and they just go out and purchase top of the line parts and throw it on there. This is not mainly the problem I have, its those guys who do this and show it off to EVERYONE and stick it in everyone's faces. Its just rude, and I am sure the cops don't like it either.
Now I am not saying that this is you Interpun haha, but sometimes all you need is to just look like a guy who works in the oilfield and thats how they nail you. The stereotypical mindset of the oilfield is money, and everyone has lots of it. With the end of the month coming, they need to fill their quota, and its hard to do it with the DOT around. They get everyone they can.
At least thats my excuses for him haha :P
And yes I did work up about 3 hours north of mcmurray. The type of work I was in I just did not enjoy it. I am an electrician, and I went up there thinking hard work=Big money=New house in the fall. Boy was I wrong. Everything is so safety orientated there that production is all the way down the ladder. Some days we were sitting all day for 10.5 hours strait not doing anything. AND when were were it was just ty-rapping cables to tray for 10.5 hours haha. Not my kind of work, easy money yes, social life no, and mind numbing ABSOLUTELY! So I came back here where I can think for myself haha

Like you said i think it was a mix of may long weekend, being in Whitecourt, having a quota to fill and some angry lil cop. But you know what i'm really over it now my anger is gone and i'm just gonna live with it. I didn't get a ticket it's not that bad and i'll just lay low for a while. Besides that i love Alberta it's kind of like being in Ontario, looks really alike besides the fast running water rivers, hard to fish in those i tell ya hahaha. And there's no rocks out here.
Got pulled over again for the same thing today, this time he let me go since i got pulled over monday, this guy was much nicer and explained to me that the reflectors are barely visible since there is a dark tint. He told me to make it legal i can tape some reflective stripes on the back somewhere then i would be good. Looks like i'll have to ride at night or not at all.

When i was driving back probably 10 min before whitecourt that's when i saw a cop car sitting in between the 2 lanes facing me, so i rolled down my window before i drove by thinking it might help, but i guess not. He didn't say much about the tint since I'm from Ontario and we have different grades that are legal there, but more for the tailights which i guess are not good for them. He said it's not the light output the problem but the reflectors, if something was to happen at night he figures they would not be visible, which i doubt but i didn't argue. He was very civilized and told me not to be surprised if i get pulled over more in the future. I might just tape a few strips of reflective tape which would look pretty gay but at least they won't bug me about it, i'll take them off when i get back home.
I'm starting to miss the O.P.P. hehehe.
Huh...I have never really even noticed reflectors even on the stock lights....I guess thats something I have to look for.
A question that I have for him is does the reflector have to be on the taillight? What if you were to install a strip between the tailgate and the bumper or two strips either side? There is that little space between? You can buy a black reflector tape, that burns white when light is shown upon it. It would not be something "too" noticeable, but also would make your truck legal, AND you would not be pulled over anymore...

Things must be really different up there than it is around here---in 40 yrs. of LE I never had a quota--They let me give as many as I wanted LOL. Remember there are ******** in every profession--yours included.
