Default Watsup with Alberta cops

Well today i just got pulled over by what i think was a lil angry young police officer who was mostlilely jealous of my truck. As i'm pulling in to canadian tire what do i see behind me? a police car.

The reason he stopped me is for my tint on each front window and my top windshield stripe. Which I agree is not legal but in Ontario is tollerable. The second thing he told me my GoRecon led taillights were illegal because they have a tint on them and are not visible. I told him if anything these are way brighter than my stock oem garbage halogen, and that last time i checked these lights are SAE approved, but he wanted to hear nothing of it. He thought it was a cover at first, I showed him the reflectors and all but he was just stubborn. I told him i'd fight that one because they are SAE approved i guess Alberta has special laws than America. Third thing is he told me my switchbacks are illegal because they have to be amber at all times, which i guess i understand but whatever what a ****ing ******* anyways. He gave me a month to get all those fixed and to bring my truck in to show the changes. I just hope i'll be done work by then and out of this province, I've had the truck like this for about 3 years and never got bugged for any of it, even had some officers tell me i have a nice truck. Thanks for ruining my day officer.

I understand all of that but the only thing that pissed me off was the led taillights, this guy was pretty clueless about it and told me it has to be visible all around, i turned on my lights showed him the led lights on the side and the back, and also the reflector but i could of just slapped him he didnt want to listen to me. I told him i'd fight that one. I guess i'll have to do some homework on the laws here and see what i can do. Theres no ****ing way i'm changing any of it.

Rant over, that felt good.

Anybody else get trouble for their led tail lights?

I don't know of anyone around here that get in trouble for led taillights. In fact I know 3 guys personally who have them, two of which are smoked. They have been stopped, but cops never troubled them about it. Big question to me is does he just not like LEDs? Or smoked taillights? I have a news flash for him, cause in 2013 they come stock on all rams. I would indeed fight that one.

As far as the switchbacks go, They should not be illegal either. I know that running without DRLs is illegal, but they don't seem to touch on it because you will find many squad cars running without them. (at least thats my excuse if I ever get pulled of and my LEDS are not enough) Technically I am running a form of switchback, I have LED strips that are on all the time (blue) and are on a negative relay trigger so they go off when the signal light comes on. I have never been pulled over from that. How do they get the cars that don't have a amber running lamp or park lamp? All they have is a halogen headlamp? Yes the signal should be amber, but if I know switchbacks they flash amber anyways no? So I can't see how the problem is there....

The tint is a big thing here. Many people have them and cops make you pull the tint off your window here locally. Many guys in fact are turning to a dealer that buys factory made tinted glass. Cops pull them over then and they literally cannot pull the tint off. Cops seem to live with then. Some claim that it as to do with the fact that if your in an accident it makes it harder for the emergency personnel to get you out. They claim that the tint holds the window together. I don't know if I believe it or not, but thats what some of the claims are.

Some cops around here are D-bags, some are really good. Did you get stopped by a sheriff or RC? The sheriffs are the worst around here, they think they own this province can do whatever they please and get whoever they want. I realize that they have a quota to meet but come on! I once was pulled over by a sheriff for doing 5kms over the speed limit in Calgary city limits. I'm pretty sure it was out of his jurisdiction, but none the less it was stupid. He told me, and I quote "We are trying to get all the young drivers who think they own the road driving their parents vehicles out of control"-I still began to tell him who's name is on the registration? "Well yours is, but that does not mean your parents didn't buy that for you?" I asked him how the parents could buy me a brand new truck from the dealer, and the dealer would let it off the lot in someone else's name and insurance. "Well still does not explain the situation, stop trying to talk me out of it!" Needless to say I was pissed, there is more to that story but thats another time :P.

What were the ticket totals? Hopefully you can get in and out of the province in time, but with technology now a days, i'm not sure it would not catch up with you in the future. If it was a sheriff then I would almost think about going into an RC office and talk to them. They seem to be pretty understanding of these situations, but they can tell you whats legal and not. They could probably hand you a handbook on the rules and regulations too so that you can bring it directly to the guy who stopped you. Sometimes tho there are those times you just have to take the hit around here...

At first when he pulled me over he thought i had a burned out signal light, because i have led's and it hyperflashes, whichi dont mind anyways that's how i keep them. so he made me turn on my lights and put my flasher on and brought me out of my truck to show me the burned signal light, but he was actually looking at the orange reflector, I then showed him the bulb which was actually flashing, but white and orange because it's a switchback, then he said it's illegal because it's white, but it freaking flashes orange. I could just tell he was looking for something, then he saw my hid's and asked if they were white not blue, i mean cant you just tell they are white idiot. So there again i'd probably be able to fight that one. But the main reason for pulling me over was the tint, and i can't argue with that since it's the law in alberta but then he was just cracking down on everything else. Since i was at the canadian tire parking lot he told me to buy a razor and remove, like ****.

It wasn't a sheriff it was just some young kid looking for something, and obviously drove by my truck and saw ontario plates figured he'd welcome me to alberta i guess. I told him i see trucks like mine all the time especially in the black gold province, he said we are trying to crack down on these.

I must of argued for ten minutes for my tailights saying they are legal and showing him the reflectors and how the lights work, he said he barely saw my brake lights on when i applied them, i think he is blind because those are way way brighter than any stock lights.

He never wrote me a ticket he just gave me a notice on paper to change all these things and gave me a month to bring my truck to the office and show them the changes, or else i would get the ticket. I appreciate that now it gives me a month of free time until i could get another ticket, because i aint touching none of it, he is high on his own *** fumes that's for sure. I'm just gonna find documentation on the tailights saying they are DOT approved and find some laws for the province and carry them in my truck and show them to the next idiot that wants to stop me. But i did stay calm and just agreed with him so he wouldn't be more of and *******, except for the tailights, that just pissed me off.

Right. And then get an assault on an officer charge, along with disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. Go to jail, or let the kid cop rant? You obviously are lacking in the common sense department.

Well here in the States, I can have my gun in my truck in NH. But if I bring my Gun to Massachusettes and they stop me with my gun in the truck I can go to jail depending on the circumstances. I think it is just a case of you go from one place to another, you have to know the rules in both places. Tinting laws vary in the states as well. Just chalk it up to a learning event. Lots of guys have the LED tail lights down here in all different states. Have not heard too many issues of being stopped or given a hard time about it though.

No I'm just here for the summer working like everybody else in this country seems like. My truck is mostly parked atvthe campground anyways so I'm not even gonna bother with any of it. I'll just keep paying the fines until I'm done here anyways. I got better things to do than uncustom my whole truck for some officer having a bad day or hating on my truck. Right after I got pulled over I counted at least 5 other trucks with the same taillights. It's gonna be cheaper to pay the fine for the tint then removing it and getting it done again.. Like I said I'm just gonna do my research and protect my ***. When I told him about the lights being dot approved and that I would fight that one out (after he gave me the notice) his face was red and I could tell that he was wrong but wouldn't admit it. Life goes on.

Lu I feel your anger towards cops sometimes I wish I was in Grand theft auto video game and unleash the fury. I'm just not that dumb, but some people still do things like that like on cops tv show hahaha.

Just FYI DOT certification doesn't have any meaning in Canada. Lights/etc needs TC or CSA stamps on them to qualify. I'm in the process of having the AB govt sort themselves out for HIDs to make sure HIDs are used in projectors, not reflectors. Its been hurdle after hurdle.
