i guess it would depend on your definition of high performance engine. i would consider just about every engine made today high performance. i wouldn't even use a fram filter on my old low performance 318. i can get a filter that is better quality than fram for less.

 

I know a lot of people that have used FRAM filters for yrs and never had a problem. "I didn't know they were Wal-Mart filters" They're in almost every parts store out there. I've even used them several times and never had an engine trouble in MANY years. Just saying.

 

Just saying. THOUSAND upon THOUSANDS are used daily

 

It's your choice to take the risk, just like anything. But like I said, I won't be risking my engine over a poorly build cardboard filter.

 

Heck, how many engines have been ruined because some donkey didn't put the oil plug in?? Also, I'd like to use synthetic oil, i never have before, but seems thats the way to go, but Dodge gives you 3 free oil changes and I have the extended service plan, so you KNOW the dealer won't put sun in it so I'm sticking with conventional oil and a quart os snake oil like I have for 35 yrs.

 

I'm sure quite a few. Unfortunately we aren't discussing "How many engines have been ruined by a donkey that forgot to put an oil drain plug back in", but are instead discussing "When to switch to synthetic" and "What oil filters are the best bang for your buck".

 

Don't use any snake oi(additive) it ruins a good oil formula. Lots of change in lubricants in 35 years.
